Assuming that they still have some water in the Arkansas River in August, which Rafting company and Tour is the best one to take? I figure that my DW and I would probably like a half day deal but could opt for a full day if that is recommended. Any suggestions? One outfit suggested the Royal Gorge tour. Anyone have any experience and tips?

Appreciate any and all suggestions and ideas.

Thanks

http://www.americanadventure.com/ in Buena Vista, Colorado is who we used. It was fun & they are very safety conscience. While you are there say hello to Jeff & Cindy at Mt. Princeton RV Park. They have a nice campground a a couple newer basic cabins to stay in on the edge of town. www.mtprincetonrvpark.com

Having done several multi day and single day trips on various rivers in the US I have not found a bad outfitter. Instead, I suggest that people read the fine print on what they are getting in their trip.
The bigger gamble to me is your passengers who you do not have a choice in picking. My only Arkansas trip had an arguing couple that delayed our departure for almost an hour.
Guides often work for tips and a small wage. It is in their best interest that you have fun.
That's a fun float I think you will enjoy regardless of who you pick.

On edit: I did the all day tour through the gorge.

We have used river runners out of Buena Vista, real happy with them. Water levels are way down this year.

When we visit our son in Canon City, we stay at the Royal View RV Park, there are tons of rafting outfits around there.

Before moving to Buena Vista we went with Noah's Ark. Quality operation. Their guides weren't your typical unkept river rats.

The water is so low this year that all the companies are taking customers way south of Salida towards Canyon City and the Royal Gorge. Not sure how much longer some they will be running the river. The trout are starting to scrape bottom.

We just got back. Spent 9 days on the river.

Arkansas River Tours on Big Horn Sheep Canyon was great.

Echo Canyon Rafting Co. on Big Horn Sheep Canyon was great.

Adventure Co. on Browns Canyon sucked. Short run, pricey.

Adventure Co. on Milk Run was great for the little grandson.

Have fun!
