just had a Shaw tech upgrade my home dish to triple satellite and as luck would have it the same day my $50 triple lnb for my 75cm dish arrived so i put it on and set it up to my RV.
the tech after installing the new home lnb had to upgrade the 6xx series receivers to work with the new triple lnb by inserting a flash drive into each receiver and calling Shaw tech support to send an upgraded signal to each receiver to convert the signal.
If, like me, you have multiple receivers and dishes you must make sure the receivers and dishes are in sync or they will not work together. if you upgrade only one dish because the triple satellite wont work south of Idaho you cant take your receiver that has been upgraded down south with or to a dish that is still with the double sat lnb without having the receiver re-reprogrammed! when you hook them up they will work on a few channels but not all.
Confused yet! Im glad i talked to the tech and upgraded both my home and travel dishes AND receivers at the same time or switching them around would not have worked. He said double sat lnb's and older receivers will continue to work like my 'cabin' setup even with my home and RV dishes upgraded.
WOULDNT HAVE KNOWN THIS IF I DIDNT ASK THE TECH, AND SHAW DIDNT TELL ME OVER NUMEROUS DISCUSSIONS ABOUT MY UPGRADES TO HOME AND RV.
Hope this helps for those with dishes setup down south or receivers down south, OR planning on take upgrade home receiver south to a dish that has not been upgraded. Just dont try to mix and match.
We recently upgraded to a 600 series PVR and as part of the deal a Shaw tech came out and installed the new LNB on our home dish for the three sats.
We decided to take the new receiver with us in the RV (which has the old LNB on the dish), the receiver with the programming for the new LNB won't work with the old LNB. I called Shaw while on the road, they changed the set up on the receiver so it worked with the old LNB, and I've just had them change the programming back when we've got back home.
I'm ordering the new LNB for the RV but the Shaw tech indicated that they have no difficulty in doing the switches, they have great customer service!
By the way, some of the older receivers cannot be configured to receive the third sat, something to consider down the road when Shaw starts moving channels to the third one.
