I would like to suppricze my wife with a romantic getaway. We live in central NY and would like to travel no more than 6-8 hours and stay for a few days.
We never got the chance to celebrate our anniversary properly, and would like to take advantage of a few slow weeks coming soon.
I am not looking to go camping for this trip. Good food, exciting sights and maybe a spa or resort type destination. Somewhere that she will remember for a while.
Im looking for any and all ideas.
I do realize that this is not a camping trip, but I know the vast amount of knowledge this site allows.
we love The Inn and Thorn Hill in Jackson, NH. We went there for our honeymoon and went back for our 5 year anniversary, hope to go back for our 15 yr. (the only times I get hubby to not camp is our anniversary every 5 years) It is very close to Mt. Washington, as well as Conway with a nice main street to walk with some shops.

please check out Niagara on the Lake! Wonderful romantic resorts, in wine country, lots of winery tours and tastings. Plenty of spa resorts also. Very close to Niagara Falls, but a world apart. Go into Niagara falls for Fallsview casino and win big! Do the tourist things and relax. Drive another 3 hours and visit with us!! LOL. Just what you don't need on a romantic adventure!!LOL.. Dona

How about a getaway at the CT casinos, Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun. Take in a show or a day at the spa. There is a nice wine tour through the CT country side or spend a day in Mystic and enjoy the ocean and the history of the area at the village. Take a schooner ride from the seaport. There are many Bed & Breakfast in the area too.
In your area, how about Lake Placid? We love to visit the Adirondack Region.
Hi, I wholeheartedly second the recommendation of Niagara on the Lake!
Before we were RV'ing, we took a family vacation to the
Falls and someone mentioned we should check out this beautiful area with wineries and B&B's etc. We would love to go back (by ourselves!)
I like Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake idea. I would suggest eating at the top of the restaurant (name escapes me at the moment) that overlooks the falls. One of our favorite places to eat. I wouldn't pick the Poconos. JMHO. We went and were very disappointed. A lot of the area is kind of run down. Didn't seem romantic at all to us.
