We're in Bar Harbor Me and want to go south on US1 when we leave. Has anyone here done that route in a 40'er with tow? Any issues?
Thanks,
Ron

Did it in a 30 ft with toad. Stopped to see everything, Ate seafood at some really neat places. and had a ball. Would recommend it to anyone not in a hurry. For kicks, stop and see the Great Desert of Maine. You will never forget it!!

42' with toad. Great state park at Camden, Camden Hills State Park, along US 1. There is also a road to Mt. Battie with a good view of Camden and the islands directly in the park.

Also the LL Bean flagship store in Freeport is a good stop. They used to allow overnighting in the parking area but you would need to check to be sure of that now.

No problem on US 1 for us.

We have done it. Enjoy, beautiful drive up there!

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

We were through there in late 2009. There was one section of the road that was almost a game trail. I would hope they have it fixed by now.

Only problem with that route is weight gain from eating too many clams and lobster and empty wallet from stopping in Freeport. Good road, good food, good camp, good people........enjoy..!

No problem - did it with 38' mh w/toad. There was one section - near Rockport? that the locals gave me a "heads up" - I can't remember the details, but thinking we followed a truck route - off 1 for just that segment of town. Maybe someone has a better description than the mess I just tried to explain. It will be slow, lots of summer traffic, and not as many ocean views as one would think - but it is a great drive.

If you spend too much time on those many stops, you might skip Route One South of Portland which is more congested and just "more" - little unique to require a stop.

Yes. I remember that truck route now. I did not take but it would have been better if I had. Went straight thru town and it was congested but passable. I would take the truck route in that area.
