Good evening everyone from a newbie on this forum. .

My mechanic tells me that I need to get either a NEW or REBUILT "ECM" for our 2001 Chateau Sport 28 ft with a 2000 Ford v10 GAS. . .he and I have searched the internet with no luck. . . Anyone out there who could help or advise what a next step would be ? ? ?

My unit has been sent to Florida to be "rebuilt" with no luck when reinstalled :>( My wife and I are at a loss where to turn . . .

Looks like your mechanic failed to do a proper diagnostics IF we assume the rebuilt unit is good.

And I am assuming the same mechanic found the rebuilt to be good but didn't work when plugged in.

Normally, ECMs that are rebuilt / replaced need to be programmed correctly.. was that done?

I think you need a new mechanic.

Very unusual for the E-series to lose an ECM without some sort of cause, like improper welding technique, or a failed charging system, or crossing jumper cables.

Why did the mechanic think it was bad?

My local wrecking yard usually stocks ECMs for all vehicle starting in the early 90s. The usually have a few E450s laying around too. (You cannot use a van-body ECM because it will not allow 4.56 gears to be selected).

The ECM definitely needs to be programmed. I was told that only Ford can do it.

"nalcon" Thanks for your response. . .the outfit in Florida supposedly got the re-program "details" from the Ford Faactory and did the "FLASH" re-programming ? ? andd the first attempt to re-install did not work. . .the ECM has been returned to Florida for a second try. . .when the unit comes back and is re-installed if it does not work then we are going to have it towed to the nearest Ford Dealer - in Saratoga Springs - as we went to them personally over the weekend and they requested that we have the RV owwed to them and they will re-check everything, in case our mechanic has "missed" something. . .the dealer wants to do their own testing to confirm whether the ECM is really the problem.

THANKS to all who shared their thoughts. . .all comments were appreciated ! ! Jim Butler, Schroon Lakae, NY
