I was looking to buy a new Chevy or Dodge pickup. They seem to have all the same equipment, except Dodge has a 115 Volt outlet and Chevy does not. But Chevy provides a USB port.

My question is this. What is the USB port for? Does it provide power to a laptop? I am totally ignorant when it comes to computers.

If it is the same as my Volvo rig,it will charge anything with a usb like an ipod, etc. It also might be tied into the sound system and you can play mp3's from a flash drive. That's what I do in my truck and my explorer with a Kenwood system.

It might be a charging-only port, but more likely it's an input for the radio. You can play music from your smartphone or even a USB stick on many radios.

In the future I wouldn't be surprised to see USB ports near every seat for charging all the devices prevalent in society these days.

The USB is perfect for plugging in an iPod or phone for music or charging of any device that uses the USB. Most cell phones now use USB for charging and data transfer. You can also plug in a thumb drive that has music on it and play it through the trucks speakers.

My Ram has a USB port on it that I use to download music from a thumb drive to the hard drive of the radio. I really like this as I no longer have to carrry cds with me.

Our Jeep Wrangler has the USB port. Can be used to power/charge anything that will charge through a USB port. Will also accept thumb drive with music. Somewhat disappointing though, it will not play music from our iPhones through that port.......

Well if it's come down to USB vs 115v I'd choose the plugin, more uses! Hard to beleive it's come down to that though

Charging is a new one to me. I'm not saying the USB in the Chevy doesn't, but I am saying that I didn't see it in the owner's manual. According to my owner's manual it is for playing MP3 files through the radio.
