I agree! I do see that "rules are rules" is correct but a kind gesture goes a long way with us also. Last year we had reservations for a 5 night stay at a campground in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The day we were suppose to arrive we had a Nor-easter (sp?) and it was just too unsafe to drive. We called the campground to let them know we would still be arriving the next day and to hold our reservations. We fully expected to pay for that 1st day (it is their policy not to refund due to weather) but to our suprise they said we did not have to pay for the 1st day. We camp their almost exclusively and even store our camper there. They kept us as customers! I'd say that is smart business!

I don't think so. Camp sites are interchangeable, like renting a power washer or a post hole digger. I own a park where even with 100% occupancy it doesn't really always hold true. I am often full on some days and have several vacancies the next few. Say I am full on Saturday night and have 5 spaces available Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. If someone calls wanting 4 nights starting that Saturday, I have to turn them away. Then the guy cancels Saturday night, I might very well still be able to rent that Saturday night, but I still won't get the other three nights the guy I turned away was willing to pay for. Also,this park is in an area where the vast majority of the stays are 3 to 7 days long. Renting a spot for one night, especially on short notice is very difficult. Most people do not travel to that area without reservations and needing only an overnight stay. A last minute one night cancellation almost always goes unfilled. It is an unfortunate fact most parks need to have cancellation charges. If they didn't some people would abuse the system to the point it would seriously impact the bottom line of the park.

The OP stated that this was the 3rd stay at this park. I would think that loyalty like that could have been rewarded but this park chose not to do so.
I think I would look elsewhere to camp next time.
There are many campgrounds just a little further South that might not "stick strictly to the rules".

Okay, if I have to leave early and the CG doesn't refund, should they be allowed to rent the space I paid for and I am legally entitled to use. I do not remember where or when but in the back of my mind I remember someone sueing for a refund because a business rented to them and they had to leave and then the business rerented to someone else.
We have made reservations and for some reason not been able to use our site, I don't really expect a refund but if it is rented and the CG doesn't lose any money by my cancellation why not refund all but a legitimate service fee?
Do you know the site was rented after you left. If so you should be credited. If not your loss.

For those that think a refund is in order..............
The site that was refunded will more than likely not be rented. This does nothing but drive up prices for all of us.
Make a reservation, leave early, stand up to your reservation and pay for all days. Helps the campground and helps keep prices down.
