We're doing a TT upgrade soon. Normally, I decline all dealer add ons when buying vehicles but thought I'd ask about this one.

Over the phone, the dealer told me about a product Duratine (I might have the name wrong). Said it's a protective coating they spray on the outside and under the RV. Say you don't have to wax it for 5 years and that you won't get black streaks, sun fading, rust, etc. They said they also wear respirators and go inside and spray something on all the cushions and carpeting to protect the fabric. I think there was some sales talk about NASA enigneers and molecular bonds thrown in.

I'm letting anyone spray any type of chemicals inside the RV but wanted to ask if there's any merit to any type of outside protective coating? Our other trailer has seen some exposure damage and fading over the last 4 years so anything to extend the life might be worth thinking about.

That said, I consider most dealer add ons to generally provide the most value to the dealer. I have no issue waxing my trailer every year and I can buy a lot of wax for $1,500+.

Any merit to this type of stuff? Is it anything I can't just do myself for a fraction of the cost?

Thanks!

You can buy those fancy coating yourself at auto paint supply places for less than $25 last time I checked.
A dealer used some on a new car I bought that had some scuffs in the door jamb. It seemed to give it a nice shine but it faded away in a couple of years. I don't think it would be worth anything like that kind of money.

If the upholstery wasn't scotchgaurded you can buy a can yourself.

Years ago they had poly-glycoat for cars. Super tough but when we got one in the body shop, a serious pain to repaint.

I guess you could Zep it on day one.

I remember that stuff! I used some stone called Blue Polly and it was fantastic but when I got that car repainted, they had to grind all that stuff off.

Save your money and spend about $15 to do the same thing...if you ever read the fine print to their "protection plan", you wouldn't even think of getting it...It's just another way for the Stealer to take even more of your hard earned money ...FER GIT ABOUT IT

I don`t know what they would spray on it to eliminate black streaks....since the black streaks form from the roof being dirty. skip it all. Do they really think that telling someone that they wear respirators when spraying the interior fabric helps the sale?!

Just wash it regularly and wax it once a year!

BTW, how much for the magic chemical treatments?
