Looks like we'll need helmets for our dune buggy.

Yes, but only on a "dune buggy" up to 1000cc.

Ah, I missed that one. I wonder if that is a mistake...is there such a thing as a dune bugy with a motor under 1000cc?

(2) A vehicle designed by the manufacturer with a maximum speed
capability of 30 miles per hour or less but is modified so that it has a
maximum speed capability of greater than 30 miles per hour satisfies the
criteria set forth in this subdivision.
(e) Has an engine displacement equal to or less than 1,000cc (61 ci).

Wait a minute, I think this 1,000cc only mentioned for the sake of being clear about modified engines...those modified engines including those equal to or lesser than 1,000cc.

Hmm, we'll have to see.

Sounds like they're looking at Side by Sides and those Pep-Boys "Asian" go-kart/little dune buggies.

I'm not sure if I'll have a problem with it until I try driving with one. My DH does most of the driving through the dunes and as the passenger, I do look over my shoulder quite a bit to make sure our friends are still there or to be sure nobody is coming if we're about to turn. Just hate for the helmet to inhibit my view.

I don't know where you're coming from but I don't like the government continually taking away freedoms on the premise that is 'for our own good'.

Whats next? They mandate neck braces because there are too many neck injuries? And after that???

I think it should be up to the rider. Personally, I ride dirt bikes, not dune buggys, and I wear a helmet for my own safety because I want to.
