I have to remove my trailer hitch often. I am older and have back problems. I was curious how other trailer owners accomplish this task. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a chain hoist in my garage. Our hitch is about 150 pounds and I take it out when we’re not RVing. We travel 4-6 months in the winter, so I just take it out when we get home and put it back in for our winter travels.

Chain hoist setup would be great if you can installed on. If not, hire local "out of work" teen or neighbor to do it.

I have same issues you do, bad back and all. I leave mine in the truck as must as possible and work around it.

You might do some searching because someone dicussed this before. I suggested the B&W Companion. This way you can remove it in 2 pieces total of 300 lbs. You can use an engine hoist to put it in or a tractor. Someone said that you can leave it hooked on the trailer and pull it off but I won't do that.

The chain hoist in the garage sounds convenient. I have to be able to get into my garage. It is full of stuff that I need to go through and toss. The engine hoist sounds like it might work, even if I move. I had heard of leaving it on the trailer, but figured it would be rather difficult to line-up and put back in.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.

A search will provide you with an hour or so of reading. I use two methods. One is an electric hoist I have in the rafters of my shop building. The second method I use if I am at a campground for an extended time or at a winter location such as Yuma I leave my hitch attached and locked to the king pin.

I left my hitch hanging on the trailer for years while I stored it between uses. Never a problem and never a backache.

I got a small four wheel garden cart at sears. It's just a couple inches shorter than hitch. Pull pin and pull unit out onto cart. Wife's idea actually. Then just pull it into garage. Lifting it to put back on is not so bad. Couple inches beats 2 or more feet!

I got an 2T engine hoist for $100 from a tool shop that was going out of business. Sold the engine stand for $25. :-) I had to lengthen the boom to be able to reach over the tailgate to the receiver pocket on my B&W Turnover Ball. I set my Companion on a furniture dolly to move it around the garage. If you PM your email address, I can send you pictures. Used to be on here, but my picture host got dumped and I've never put them back up.

Use this stand low to the ground to set it on with the hoist. That way you can roll it out of the way when not needed.
I cheat and use the loader on my Kubota M-4700 to sit mine in and out with. Just set it down on a pallet then store it in the shed.
