When dumping my black tank it is very hard to open and close the valve. I tried lubricating the rod that slides in and out but not much difference. Is it time to replace the valve and if so is it just a matter of unbolting the old one and sliding it out then wedging in a new one? Thanks for the help, Bob.

I've seen several posts where folks have drilled a small hole in the plastic housing above the rod then screwed a zero fitting in there and give it a squirt once in a while.
I'd try that first. If you might end up replacing the valve anyway certainly nothing lost.
Make sure you dump and rinse well before removing the old valve. If you can, tilt that side up a much as you can to try to eliminate dribbles.
There are detailed posts on changing the dump valve.

Zirk fitting?
My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

It sounds like it needs a cleaning at a minimum. There are four small bolts that hold the assembly together. Drain and rinse well and take it apart. You might be able to just clean residue out of the valve blade and channels to improve things...total replacements aren't too expensive.

Drain valve lube added to the tank, freed up ours. I add the lube after every other tank draining. I buy it from Camping World or Wall Mart. Other people use vegitable oil.

Thanks for the replies. I will also check for previous posts on the subject, completely spaced that option. Bob.

I have been greasing my rod with a small hole drilled into the plastic just in line with the rod and insert a zirk fitting just like on the ball joints of a car or truck. did this on my last TT years ago and use it on this one too. works so nice.

When mine gets hard to move, I DUMP FIRST. I then spray half a can of silicon spray up the dump pipe while operating the valve (plus a squirt on the rod). I then do the same with the other valve and the second half of the can. Works for us.
P.S. I have found Olive Oil works better in the tank than the coconut oil used in most commercial valve lubes.

There may be some kind of crud gumming it up on the inside. Take a power washer while valve is open, and spray out real good. Then close the valve spray it again. Then shoot some lube/wd-40 up in the valve and rod. See if that unsticks stuff.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.
