We had our gas sensor go off two days in a row while on a three week trip. Local RV shop was kind enough to get us in to check the system. Fortunately, there was not a propane leak. The service guy suspected it was a fluctuation in voltage and recommended we add a second battery due to size of our rig. (2011 Montana 345 DBQ with 4 slides). I would have thought the delivering dealer would have done this if a second battery was necessary or Keystone would have made it standard. Anyone else have a similar issue or any thoughts on the matter? Thanks.

Second battery would only be needed if you USE the batteries a lot (talking about camping without electric hook ups). If you stay in places with electric hook ups most of the time and ALWAYS when the weather is cold, then a single battery is sufficient.

Did they also check out your tow vehicle to be sure it was charging the existing battery as it should? That would be my fist item I'd suspect if your battery was not handling travel and you were NOT camping without electric.

A second battery shouldn't matter....
Is your original battery worn out? I don't see how it was effecting your alarm sensor...they draw almost no power. A second battery would give you more time between charges, but that is about it.

You may have some obscure light on, or some other power drain, that is effecting the battery.....or a bad cell in your current battery?

Good luck

The propane sensor has a low voltage alarm too. It is doing its job and warning that battery voltage is low.

Safe to say that, at least on this trip, you needed more battery.

I've had my sensor alarm go off on both my FW and boat, traced both times to a low battery situation. WRT to the mfgr. not putting in a second battery, I believe they will provide the minimal (one battery) unless you purchase an optional battery.

If you used your FW at all without an electrical hookup there's a good chance you ran down your battery a bit causing your sensor to go off. I can barely last one night dry camping with just one battery. Of course, there's always a chance your battery has run dry or is failing and you'll have to check that out, too.

Had this happen on a previous trailer years ago. Only 1 hour after getting it home, while loading camper the LP alarm started beeping. I called the previous owner (co-worker) and he said battery was probably getting weak. Installed new battery.....problem solved.

Dealers will only install a second battery if you request it. Made it part of the trade.

I have always run 2 batteries in travel trailers. I need second battery for when I dry camp. Also, we have three electric slides so I figured it would be a good idea.

Installed both of the 12V batteries in a dual 6v battery box. Used the vent system from the original battery box.

Are you plugged in? If so then second battery is not needed. The converter or charging system needs to be checked.

Are you not plugged in? Two batteries may not be enough. Also the converter or charging system may need to be updated to get a faster charge into the batteries when running the generator.

Thanks for replies. We always camp with full hook up, so I would not imagine the battery would run down. We were plugged in when the alarm went off. Maybe replacing the battery will resolve the issue.

I have read posts that said the alarm went off when the sensor was blocked by objects in front of it. Might this be your problem ?
