I'm at KOA East now. River/stream on one side and lake on the other (E section). Has to be one of the finest settings we have ever stayed in. Beautiful grounds and great staff. If on the other side of the river, it's a normal CG. It's about 20 min to Biltmore.

We loved Mama Gerties. One of the nicest we've been to. No pool though or any activities if kids are going. Just off I-40 up a steep mountainside. Not far from Asheville at all. I look forward to going back.

We stayed in Waynesville - at Creekwood Farm - very nice. Easy drive to Asheville, Blue Ridge Parkway, and GSM NP. Creekwood is open all year

We stayed there july 2011 and were not impressed. We were in the front section near the pool and heard loud train whistles at all hours. The sites were very tight. I do have to say that the staff was nice and tried hard but the small sites and train whistles were enough for us to not return.

Anaro: Guilty and innocent. I'm guilty because I forgot the trains because there were a few days with none. We're here for about 2 weeks. There are days and nothing and then there will be days a lot. When "a lot" happens they are there and we get used to it. I always considered it the unwritten rule that CG's had to be near a railroad.

I did say that the upper levels were a normal CG...crowded. The E section is absolutely fantastic with the brook/stream/river on one side and a beautiful lake on the other. We travel a lot and have never had such a great site as we have on the E section, and there are several. Fun watching families tubing in the creek and fishing in the lake from their fire pit area.

IMHO, if you can get a site in the E section (and can live with trains now and then), do it. I have no stake in this park. Just like it (but probably, like you, would not be that impressed if I were in the other sections).
