Hi all, I got a 2010 jayco exp. 19h. It came with a worthless flat metal and plastic bumper. I'm just wondering if anyone ever replaced a bumper like that with a 4" square steel hose bumper? Just not sure if the frames on this style of camper are stiff enough for that style bumper or not? Any thoughts?
Our ROO came standard with the 4" square bumper. Was it an option with Jayco?? You're right, not very functional.

Get a section of PVC Pipe 4-in x 10-ft Sch 40, cut to size of the rear bumper, mount it with tie wraps, get 2 end caps, paint it all gloss black and you have a sewer hose bumper.

The frame is strong...but made to be extremely light weight...so you don't want to tamper with it too much by welding or drilling.

Pretty much what I did, just not as elaborate. Our Aerolite has the non-functional flat bumper as well. I bought a section of perforated 4" PVC and one end cap, slid it behind the spare tire mount and secured it with heavy duty zip ties. I will get a pic tomorrow in the daylight.

Thanks for the ideas all. Might just go that way. While I'm on the subject do you think if I did go with a new 4" square bumper it would be strong enough to say add a hitch to it to carry a small generator?
I'm a novice, but here's two things I think I've learned. First, I have a 4" bumper, and my Rhino hose doesn't fit in it unless I pull the end connectors off, and who wants to do that! So, I'm heading towards the pvc strapped under the trailer idea. Second, it seems to be recommended to have additional supports welded in to support the bumper if mounting heavy things to it.
Those rear bumpers aren't that strong to begin with, adding a small generator may not add a lot of weight but when you are moving the trailer will bounce a lot. Some have added bracing and a receiver hitch but you really have to secure the items down. Since you have a pickup, you you would be tter off putting it in the bed of the truck.

not a good idea on an ultra-lite frame.
any mod to make the receiver strong enough, would require welding and bracing it, which would void the frame's warranty.
