Wow!
I didn't know a volt meter would be so hard to use! I see why you would rather have a test light.
Basically, all of the wires were cut (why I don't know ) and I just want to try to fix the problem. I know it will probably give me a small stroke along the way, but my OCD is telling me to figure it out on my own!
So, I'm near Tacoma. I'm an electrical engineer with a little time on my hands. I'm hesitant to say I'll fix it for ya, but if you give me some more details, and would want to bring it over, I'll ponder it. If it's just the camper-to-truck connector wiring, that should be pretty easy to fix. If you're talking about ALL the wires cut in the camper, that's another story.
Your post is a little vague as to exactly what wires were cut.
Watch your sunday paper, locally Harbor Freight puts an ad in about once a month, with a free item, most often this free item is a multimeter.
I have about a dozen, is it as good as either of my Fluke's, no, but it is the one I carry in the RV, truck, barn... get the picture?
2008 F350SD V10 with an 2012 Arctic Fox 29-5E When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.
Thanks for the offer! All of the wires have been cut... It's a complete mess in there. Basically the wiring for the 12v in from the battery has been cut and all of the wiring for the brake and running lights have been cut (why, I have no idea!!!)I was thinking about buying some extra wire and a 12 pack and have at it one day and see what I can do. I don't really need the 12v part sense I have 120 on the inside, I would just like to get the outside lights to work.
I have a 12 Volt test light that has a coiled cord, like a telephone cord that will reach from the front all the way to the rear of most any vehicle. Try finding a good ground on some newer vehicles. I also have a Fluke 88 VOM that I use to check wiring with. Great tools, I agree that everybody should have.

I'm about the same distance north and have 40 yrs experience with electronic and electrical device repair. I'm rarely home to offer help but could be convinced to camp somewhere close and give an assessment.
The first step in your wire mess is to isolate the camper exterior lighting. To get some insight into which wires you are looking for, you may need to remove the exterior light housings to identify the camper wire colors and see how the return/ground wires are bonded.
