We are looking into getting our first 5th wheel in the next couple of years. We always have lots of questions when we go the the Pomona RV Show and would like current RVers to give us some help.

What options would you buy or stay away from when looking into buying an RV? We keep hearing about 2 AC's, full bodied paint, awnings on pullouts, night shades, etc., etc., etc. Well you get the idea!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
JDJ

I was honestly surprised at how handy the electric fireplace has been. It saves you a ton of propane.

Also, just due to how we use our RV, the generator was a must-have.

I'd love hydraulic leveling next time around.

If one of the available options is A SENSE OF HUMOR, get it.
It will come in handy when owning an RV.

I agree, the electric fireplace was an option I thought was silly but now I would not have a rig without one.

Many of my "options" are now standard on newer rigs. I like the electric awning and electric stabilizer jacks. If you don't have a Fantastic Fan, get one! A second AC is an option I didn't opt for but would highly recommend! Don't forget tires! Add the best tires you can...we changed to the GY 614's from the stock Towmax.

Best Wishes!

x2. Also if you are planning on a lot of simple overnight in transient traveling get one that can be used with the slides in. Makes staying in some over night areas. On some models the front bedroom and bathroom are not accessable without putting the slides out

It probably does, but an electric space heater does the same thing for about $19.95 and it can be moved around as needed.

we have a 30ft 5er and camp with 2 small children. some musts for us:
-beds for everyone. I hate making tables/couches into beds every day
-no walk through bathroom, shower and toilet are in a traditional bathroom.
some things I would like for the next one:
-use the bathroom without putting out the slide. currently the slide closes in front of the bathroom door. we knew this compromise when we got the trailer.
-bedroom door for the kids. currently their bunks are divided from the main area by a curtain. we have a bedroom door, I wouldn't give that up.

other things to look for:
-inside storage space. where are you putting the clothes and food.
-where are you putting the dirty wash.
-outside storage space. what do you want to bring, where will it fit.
-where will shoes and jackets be kept
-what is the headroom clearance at the front. is the tallest person in your family comfortable with the clearance.

Yes, but that electric space heater from Walmart doesn't have the same "effect" on the DW! That little fireplace is magic. Just sayin'......

6 point level is a must. Our outside entertainment is used all the time. Lots of campers join us in the evenin, great for breaking the ice if you want new friends.. Also keeps everyone especially kids from spending too much time inside camper when they get bored!
