Looks like I fried the board on my microwave by being lazy and using the wrong bulb for the range light. There was a flash of light then even the right bulb wouldn't work. RV guy helped me remove it while he was here for other things and it's being checked out now but it looks like it's probably a friend board. So I'm faced with the decision of fixing it or getting a new ont. Seems like I might as well get a new one but everything else works on the old one, fan, everything.
Guy just called. Board is bad. $151 to fix. So...found another on like it on eBay for $180 including shipping. Just concerned about mounting it, don't know about screwing things into RV walls.
Any suggestions? Temping to just fix this one since the brackets are already there. I hardly ever use the microwave, a fe seonds a week to reheat something to eat. I mostly miss the range light.
How long do they usally last? Seems like no big deal to not have a rage light but after two years it gets old.
Thought about those push lights but then you're dealing with batteries...
I dunno....Oh, I also learned -- never change the light bulb while the microwave is plugged in. (!)

Are you saying your hood range light knocked out your microwave?
If so that is a strange deal there.

There was a bright flash and it fried the part of the board that controlled the light. Everything else working but if I want the light back I have to replace the board or get a new microwave and it's really hard to see what I'm cooking without the light. Maybe I said that wrong. It didn't fry the whole microwave.

I am surprised that the tech can't wire 120 VAC directly to the light switch or install a new wire and new switch. Sure don't need a PC board to just turn on a light bulb!

I asked him about that and he said they can't do that, liablity issues. I'd have to hire an electician to do it.
Now I have to put my microwave back in. I got my fridge out alone (female, 120lbs) I can get my microwave up on those brackets, right?
Oy...
Thanks for the input.

I am amazed that the wrong light damaged the board, Should not have less it was a really really really wrong light (like 250 watt lamp or something) which is ust flat outlandash.
How long do they last.. Well, I've had Microwaves last 20 years but that was one I got 30 years ago when quality still went in before the box was sealed.
Today's I don't know.
Replace or repair.. NOTE you need not use an exact replacement, you just need to make sure the hot-moist exhaust air vents out teh proper place.. I'd replace.

Yes, for replacement just ensure you get one with the same exhaust air vents where the old one was, or you will risk over heating it and getting yet another.

If it were mine I would wire up a switch and install a new light fixture IPO the original. Should be a $20 or so repair. Will work differently than before but achieve the same thing.
Good luck!

I may be gettin old but I have no idea what happened, what's the cause or what the problem is? Are we talking range hood light or micro-wave light or something else?

Same here on what caused the problem - It almost sounds like a surge took it out - not an over wattage light bulb. Don't know if the microwaves use standard lights inside the cabinets or or not. Maybe because of the microwave energy the lights bulbs have to be something special...
I had to pickup a smaller $30 WALMART special 120VAC microwave that didn't draw so much power for camping off the power grids. I just use it when camping way back in the woods. Mostly only used for warming up coffee anyway or heating up a five minute saran wrapped baked potatoes.

Only way to fix up steaks back in the woods...
Comes out perfect every time.

The big microwave is way too big power wise for my inverter setup.
