i have 1500 chevy silverado 5.3l just bought a 26ft tt. weight about 3900 lbs i have a weight distribution hitch do i still need a sway bar? thanks. Ken
Before throwing anything away; What model of WD hitch do you have?
Most have a place to mount a sway bar kit.
If the trailer and truck are level or trailer slightly nose down when hooked up you might try towing without a sway bar. You only need one if the trailer has some sway. A well aligned setup will tow fine without it.
I would recommend an anti sway system. When the trailer is going crazy behind you is a poor time to go shopping for one. A single friction bar should be a good investment for your trailer. Not as HANDY or effective as integrated anti sway but it is recommended for trailers up to 26 feet in length. It does not produce as much force to maintain the connection in a straight line as integrated systems but I used one for many thousands of miles with my 25 footer.
