Montana told me that it was a design flaw they could not correct. Their answer was to completely remove the lid. That's a pretty crappy answer to me after spending so much for a new camper.

It is a pretty crappy answer, and that customer service representative should choose his/her words more carefully. Clearly it is not a "flaw". It is a design compromise so that short people can still use the MW. You've just taken an unfortunate mis-use of the word "flaw" and went ballistic over something insignificant to the 99.9 percent of owners.

Interesting. In both fifth wheels we've owned I removed the stove cover. Not because it hit something ... I just didn't like it. Why cover the stove top?

We ditched the stove cover the day we brought the trailer home. We have plenty of counterspace so we didn't need another place to set things down.

I know, I am sorry, how do I even make that comparison?

My issue with something like this is, if they're screwing up something so minor, what =else= is wrong that's likely going to be a major problem? I'm just sayin'...

Must be the larger microwave. Truly an oversight on Montana's part, but not the first I'm sure.

What exactly were you expecting Montana to do to rectify the issue? If you think about it, there is not much the factory can do without a major modification. It won't be easy to modify the upper cabinet to raise the microwave, and if they lower the stove it will not be even with the counter which might equally frustrate you. For a 2012, that should be a battle between you and your Dealer for a resolve, not you and Montana. The Dealer has a lot more flexibility on the fix.

I get the same answers from Ford. Everytime they find something wrong they don't have an answer for, they unplug it. Kind of a standing joke with my wife and I. Everytime something needs fixed around the house I tell her to unplug it until I get to it, which means I never will.

The concern regarding distance from stovetop to MW cabinet and range hood is one of safe combustion clearance. And I assume it has been deemed as conforming to code. Other than that, there is a reason that the stovetop cover folds in the middle. You're supposed to fold it in the middle.

My favorite coffee pot will barely fit under the range hood. Odd that I never considered that a design flaw.

I didn't realize this was a matter of being able to open without folding in half - thats a different story. I don't think mine will open without folding it in half either, never even tried. It even looks better folded in half and easier to clean.

I hate that stinking cover myself. Wife always has some kind of kitchen fancy's sitting on top and its a PITA to move stuff around when I want to use it. (doesn't hit anything) I ask also, why a cover? We have plenty of counter space.
