I just purchased a used 2011 Born Free Class C with 3900 miles.
On the dash, it has a MPG readout.
And has varied between 10.00 and 10.4 mpg while I drive.
What is the HIGHEST anybody has gotten on this readout?
How accurate is this readout?
Interesting that this reading has NEVER gone below 10.0.
What is the LOWEST reading anybody has got?
Thanks

Im not sure on a Ford, but on a Dodge that is what's known as a Lie-o-meter. Actually some are pretty accurate and others like mine are way off. I would like to get the mileage mine reads. Now probably the reason it isn't moving much is that what you are looking at is an average. As the mileage that you put on is averaged it becomes harder and harder for it to change. See if it has a setting for instantaneous mode. That will let you see what's happening at any point in time like going up a hill. Be careful though as this can be frightful but it will teach you to go easy on the right pedal.

It should be fairly accurate within it's limitations. It measures your economy over a set amount of mile (I believe it's 500 miles) so changes don't occur quickly unless your current mileage is greatly different. If you want to know your current mileage, reset the computer function to zero and it will start again fresh. It will CERTAINLY vary a lot until it gets a bunch of miles again with reading of 25 MPG while costing down a hill to 4 MPG while climbing a steep one. If you want to know your optimum highway mileage then reset while ON the highway and take a reading a couple of hundred miles later. It will always be more accurate to hand calculate your fuel mileage.

If we reset ours it fluctuates a lot but after getting some mileage in it settles down to somewhere between 9 and 10. We're a little heavier than you so I'd say that your readout is pretty accurate.

Over a bunch of miles (Like 100), ours is accurate to within +/- 0.5 MPG.
Running solo (no trailer) ours has read as high as 14 (freeway, speed moderate) and as low as 7 (lots and lots of hills, same speed)

thanks... good info for me to know.
That the range could be 7 to 14 and fairly accurate. Thats pretty neat!!
Only owned for about 2 weeks.
Think I am getting about 10 1/2 mpg all around so far in 2000 miles.
Will get exact mpg when we get home.

The devil is always in the details.
All mpg readouts average the reading over some interval.
If you are coasting down a hill no throttle, the mpg is fantastic, and then you get a 1mpg reading climbing the next hill.
Customers don't want that, so they average it... and averaging methodologies vary.

It sounds to me like it hasn't been reset in a long time and therefore not changing much for the immediate conditions.
When I freshly reset mine it varies from about 10-10.5 at steady 55 on flat road with no wind. It drops rapidly in stop and go traffic. I've been driving mine (to break in) in suburban south Orange County CA. stop and go and right now the readout is 7.6 after a hundred miles since the last reset.
Best I've seen immediately after fresh reset on a coast-about 30-40 MPG.
