We need ideas of places to camp for Labor Day weekend, I have called Lake Myers and they are full, Zooland is full, need suggestions within an hours drive of Winston-Salem. Have teenager girls so a pool is a must have.
Try to get into Thousand Trails. Maybe Cross Country, or Wild Life Woods on Lake Norman.
Also Google North Carolina RV parks, and Campgrounds. There is a list of "most" of the good Campgrounds, and parks in NC. We don't camp in the flatlands, and few CGs in the mountains have pools. So other than that. I can't help.
PROBABLY your best bet would be to look at National Forest Lands/campgrounds. Not too likely that you'll find very many campgrounds ANYWHERE that have not been booked for several months now. RV parks should be a lot easier to get into on most major holiday weekends so it you LIKE them they would probably be your best bet.

Labor Day and Memorial Day weekends are the two busiest weekends of the year in every campground I've ever seen. Too bad you insist on a pool, as that does eliminate lots of alternative (most of which are likely to be full too). But good luck and best wishes finding something.
It's always interesting for me to read peoples thoughts on LD weekend being more crowded. Here in Wa. State, the CG's are full every weekend so it makes no difference whether its a 3 day weekend or not - they're all the same crowd wise.
Also, if you haven't made a reservation many months in advance then it's nearly impossible to find an opening especially with HU's.
I think your best bet would be to get on a private CG's waiting list.

Call Hagan Stone Park, a Greensboro city park. It's actually in Pleasant Garden, NC and they have a pool. I spent a month there, during which time, they had a VW Westfalia rally and a blue grass festival.
As an after thought... Oak Hollow in High Point might be an option as well. It's also a city park with FHU's and cable tv. A small pool is available there.
One final thought, if you can't find a campground spot and you really want a getaway with a pool...you might just want to check into an inexpensive motel with a pool/hot tub/cable TV. I know, but if you're really in a pinch!
When looking for campgrounds for both Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, I have been asked the same thing by each campground when I call - Did you make reservations for this year last year?
When we checked in at a campground for July Fourth this year we were asked right then if we wanted to reserve for next year- and if not, we likely would not get a space as they were already near booked for next year. We made the reservations. This particular campground has a very liberal cancellation policy so there is not much risk. I know that this is not so at many campgrounds.
I am sure there must be a campground somewhere with available sites but these are the two hot campground weekends. What sometimes works is to keep calling to see if there have been cancellations - and sometimes you get lucky.
That said - you are not too far, but more than an hour from Colonial Williamsburg and there are several campgrounds there that you could try. American Heritage has a large pool and for an additional charge a huge, blow up water slide. Lots of activities in the area too - Busch Gardens, Water Country, and all the historic sites.
