Thinking about leaving Delaware in mid September going down Skyline DR getting off before the Blue Ridge Parkway and cutting across to Nashville for a week or two. Question-is it to late to avoid the crowds on Skyline DR? Anybody have any advice?

Are you wanting to be there with the crowds?
The leaf watchers probably won't be there until Oct.

no, the leaves aren't imporant just avoiding the traffic

You can do as we do to avoid the Atlanta traffic when on our way to FL. Pass through the area late at night. The later the better.
