Hello, Is there a way to get rid of the in tank fuel pumps on our 84 E350 motorhome? I put a new pump in back tank 3 years ago, it lasted a year and died again.
I took the pump out and put a pickup tube in place of it and run a holly pump outside the tank. Now the pump on the front tank died. Should I do the same thing or is there a better way to fix it?
I don't want to buy two new in-tank pumps if they are not going to last. Is todays gas hard on the in-tank pumps?
Thank's
Tom
We have a 84 27ft Midas Kingston, a E350 Ford with 460 and a C6.
What happens to the in-tank pumps is the little seal on the shaft swells up and pops out of place and then the pump sucks air any time the pump isn't completely covered by fuel.
That's why I asked if todays fuel is messing up the pumps.
Yes Yes And Yes. Todays fuel sucks with its ethanol additive. I move fuel in bulk for a living and it plays hell on every gasket and packing a ship has. You could replace that ring that swells with a VITON one IF you can locate one or keep the tank full enough to be above the ring at all times or as you already said do the external holly thing. If its a standard o ring size order a viton replacement as viton wont swell with alky
Drawback is viton is harder therefore might not seal as well.
