This is why we can't keep mice out. I knew they could squeeze thru tight spaces, never expected this tight.

No doubt depends somewhat on the size of the mouse Doubt if they can squeeze through any opening smaller than the measurements of their skull.

They will also chew the opening to enlarge it.

The commonly accepted size in the profeesiopnal pest control industry, is the diameter of a dime, for the common house mouse.

Other species of wild mice may be smaller.

As another poster has mentioned, they can through any hole smaller than the diameter of thier skull.

DCmac...I had to smile to myself when I saw your post.
Living on a ranch in Northern California for 10 years I have tried every conceivable, imaginable mouse trap device. You name it, sticky pads, moth balls, traps baited with peanut butter inside and out, purchased electronic sound plug ins from Home Depot, 5 gallon water bucket with peanut butter smeared on a tightrope (caught 2, LOL).
The only thing I did not do was to engineer an electric small 5" tall fence around each tire with a shock system like an electric fence for cows or horses...LOL
I've never been a cat person but I love & respect all animals especially dogs and horses, but after trying everything else we adopted two cats and the female is a real mauser. Also after adopting the two, two other male strays came around so I feed them and now they work the whole property.
So that being said, I gave up personally trying to eradicate mice.
Now I sleep at nite and the cats are on patrol.
By the way, some months ago I thought I saw some mice leaving the property with their suitcases packed...LOL

Not quite a "hole the size of a pen", but here is one going thru a dime sized hole...

Mice, like all animals, seek food. Keep food properly packaged and your RV crumb free and you'll be much, much less likely to have mice.

Use Pure Peppermint Oil. There was another "tread" on this subject the other week.

I saw where an RV owner used steel wool around all plumbing and electrical entrances. It seems to work. Anyone else try this?
