Thanks for the update. There have been less notification coming in since lunchtime. At one point I had some 75+ e-mails in my in-box!

I received a Pm the other day from a member who said he had a notification that I PM'd him. I hadn't, but then remembered we did exchange PMs several weeks ago, so that is in line with what others are saying that old notifications are coming up.
What you could do to avoid your inbox being spammed is what I do. I created a yahoo account that is ONLY for when I order something or when I sign up for forums that way the main email address I use isn't cluttered up.

Notifications are handled through emails. Private messages are a totally different animal. I've don't recall a problem with the private message system, except a period of time, when the whole forum was melting down.

No, it was the 'notification' that he had a PM from me that he got in his email inbox. When he didn't see a new PM here, he thought there might be an issue. We figured out that the issue was he got the email notification of my PM several weeks late.
So no, no issue with the PM system, it was the issue of the email notification of the PM that went awry. The PM did go through just fine but it was an older one and he didn't get the notification of it via email til last week, when the others also reported delayed notifications.
Hopefully I am explaining in a non confusing way. lol

Just an FYI: I am still getting notifications... just a handful (not the huge amounts like lat week.) So it is still happening, but not as annoying as before.
I guess what I am trying to say is that if there is a problem the it is still present but not as bad as when it first started.
Hopefully this added info helps.

Are the notifications you are getting now contemporary? Or, are they notifications that are out of date?

Tom... maybe is is something on my end. I just realized some contradictions going on, I'll try to describe:
In "My Preferences" I have "Topic Subscriptions" set as "Subscribe, no Email notification." I changed it to this setting after all the e-mails from last week and just go to (as I think someone suggested) the "My Forums" page to see what is new. I like this idea for checking new posts to topics.
But in the "My Forums" page I see a column called "Emails" under which there is the option of "On" or "Off." It seems that even though I have set "Subscribe, no Email notification" as described above, there are some in this column that are set to "On."
Furthermore... in the columns for on/off, one is blue highlighted for which to pick it and the other is blacked out. I have included a screen shot below, but is the blacked out or the blue highlighted one the current status of that topic?
And... if I am "Subscribe, no Email notification" how is is it that some of these topics are set to "on." for the Emails to be relieved?

Rather than be inundated with e-mails of any topic, I would like to receive none at all and just check the "My Forums" page to check what new posts are current. What should I have any and all setting to be for this to happen?
Thanks,
-frank.
