Well, I bought an IPad last night. Didn't think I would ever get one, and thought I'd go for an android based OS that is more similar to PC since I have never used an Apple product. But after trying several models in Best Buy last night, the Apple to me just seemed made much better and I was sick of getting one virus after another on my netbook despite having spyware and virus protection. It was $399 (I got the Ipad 2, had no need for the newest one that was an extra 150) and the other one I had my eye on, the Asus Transformer, was not much cheaper than that (in fact had it not been on sale it would have been the same price as the IPad). And after playing around with them both in the store, just liked the IPad better. I honestly thought the IPad 2 was more like 500 so when I saw it was $399 I went ahead and took the plunge. I wanted to buy it from QVC with the five flex pay payments but they want over $700 for it! I am not spending an extra three hundred dollars just to get it in five payments.

I plan on buying a leather portfolio case with the blu tooth full keyboard next which will make it just like a netbook when needed, but can be removed for when the size and convenience of a tablet is only rquired. I like the idea of being able to take the portfolio into meetings with me at work to record notes and still have access to email, etc. I am rather pleased with it so far, but have a few questions to some of you who already have one who might be able to help:

-My SO likes to play some games on miniclip on the netbook that I don't think he can play on the IPad due to no flash player. I think the one he likes the most is Canyon Defense. When I looked it up on the Ipad this is not a game that is listed. Is it possible to download an app that will allow the use of this?

-I would like to hear what some of your favorite apps are and why. I don't know really which ones I want yet but would like to hear what others have.

-What is the single most thing you love about it and the thing you hate about it?

Thanks, just curious what everyone thinks about theirs. All of my friends in real life I have talked to love it. I really thought I would get an Android OS tablet but was not impressed using them in the store last night. I thought I was convinced that I was going to walk away with the Asus Transformer, or perhaps a Nexus (and they even had a nice sale on the asus where I could get the red one for $349 but I opted for an extra 50 bucks to get the IPad). I hope I don't regret it!

As the owner of IPad 2, IPad 3, IPod touch, IPhone 4s, and a MacBook Pro, I can safely say that the only downfall to these products are No Virus and unless you do some of the upgrades, they never need rebooting.
They just keep on running.
As to no flash games, this is true but look around and you will find games that the SO will enjoy.
I have found that we use the laptop less and less and can do everything we need on the IPads..
Those who will bash Apple products are generally those who have little experience and are accustomed to Windows.
Enjoy it

I have an ipad 1 and a laptop. What I like best about the ipad is that I don't have to wait for it to boot up. Also, I can add a site to my desktop to make it easy to find later. I also can easily email a link to a site to myself for review later.
Another thing I like is that I can view my photos to music easily, whenever I want.
My DH has ipad 2. With it, I was able to take a picture of a receipt for pills from the vet, and email to the manufacturer for a rebate, very convenient.

I switched to a MacBook Air, after being in DOS/PC/Windows based computers since the '80's last month. It's been a little bit of a learning curve, but the only down-side or fault that I can find is the inability to blame any lack of productivity on a virus, a crash, or otherwise unsaved data. Performance has been flawless!

I think you meant that the No Virus and never need rebooting is a good thing, not a downfall?

I can't believe you don't have to wait for it to boot up. I came home this eve and turned it on, and bam, it was up. Took the netbook FOREVER.

I never bashed Apple but never thought it was worth the heavy pricetag, and admittedly I have been a diehard PC user since the 90s. But when I was in Best Buy and was fooling around with all the tablets on display I found that the Ipad 2 was really competitively priced with the Android models, and I am simply NOT an android fan with my phone. I am not sure if it is more my phone I dislike or the android OS, but it helped sway me to this Ipad. I even looked up the price of the IPad 2 on amazon while in best buy and they (best buy) had it a few dollars cheaper, that surprised me. I also want to give a positive shout out to the young man who assisted me. They are non commissioned but he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and spent a lot of time as I made my decision. This is a rarity these days.

Some say it cannot replace a laptop. For those who are going to use heavy duty Microsoft Office programs, no it might not, but it definitely will replace a laptop for me (home laptop, not work laptop) as adding that keyboard will make it just like the netbook I have only so far it seems it will be a heck of a lot less buggy. And so much more portable than the netbook as when I dont need to key in much data I'd rather just use the tablet by itself and take it outside to sit and surf in the lounge chair. The netbook I could do that too but it was always a tad cumbersome. I think that the netbook's just have very vulnerable systems because I use the same virus and spyware protection on the netbook that I do my desktop PC but the netbook consistently had bugs that got through anyway and it would take me a lot of troubleshooting to fix. I "CAN" fix it, but I am not a tekkie so it always takes me a bit longer, and that was starting to get really old.

I am sure no doubt that the Nexus 7 and Asus Transformer are good tablets, and I have even recommended them prior to people based on friend's reviews, but for me the ease of use and how fast it moved from app to app and such it just seemed the IPad won hands down. I didn't even realize it didn't need to boot up, that is a bonus I just found out tonight.

So far, I am a real fan of this IPad.

I have an app on mine called "quick office" which allows me to create microsoft office compatible documents. My only wish is that it had a USB drive... If I did my little iPad would do everything my work laptop does!

You will enjoy the iPad. It has taken the limelight for convenience over my Mac Pro or my desktop PC. I am on mine as I reply. There are some quirks to getting use to, such as printing or attaching things to email. There are tons of Apps. What you can't see or catalogue, just type it in the search. Enjoy your new toy.

Yea, I definitely plan to add that app. I also had hesitation with lack of a USB as it is such a universal thing these days. But none of the tablets I saw - even the android OS - did not have one. I guess I will be using more cloud computing.

Thanks! I think I will! Funny thing is I mostly bought it with my b/f in mind as I typically use the desktop pc in my home office and he just casually surfs the net sometimes while watching tv, and doesn't use a computer for much when he is at home. I figured this would be a cool replacement for the netbook. I might end up using it more than I thought i would LOL. He said a little while ago it was confusing. I was like "all you do is surf the net, what exactly are you finding confusing"? LOL
