Would a loaded 1994 2500 Burb, 4x4, 4wd, 454, with only 40,000 miles be of any interest? Just curious.

I wouldn't mind it..... It would be the DW that probably would

Get the 8.1. You won't be sorry.

The 6.0L/3.73 is rated for less than 8000 pounds. Performance wise, I would not touch the 6.0L/4-spd with any axle ratio. 8.1L or bust, well, or 6.0/newer 6-spd.

My 8.1 w/ 4.10 has served me very well towing 8k loaded. 8mpg towing. 9.5 mpg in town, 12.5 mpg at 65-70. We burn 10% ethanol here. I pick up about another .5 mpg with "pure" gas.

Go with the 8.1. It has the better reputation when it comes to towing. however it is a gas hog and will need to be refueled frequently

I traded in my '03 8.0 Suburban for a 2011 6.0 Suburban and question whether the engine will hold up for 100K miles since it has to work so hard to tow my 7500 lb. TT. The slightest incline will cause it to shift down. And my towing mileage is the same for both; around 9 mpg and city driving around 10 or so. Highway is better but we are never on the highway without towing.
