Ok I have a 16' flat trailer (hauling car) that I wich to add a harbor freight 2000lb winch ($88.oo).. I will wire it from the RV and or my F150.. My question is it is rated at 2000lb and if I plan on using a snatch block (pulley) with the winch.. that should be plenty pulling power to pull a car up on the trailer RIGHT ???? as it would be a rolling car and NOT a dragging weight...

Should be fine. I use the same setup on my Sandrail/Jeep trailer. I put med/large clips, used on battery chargers can be purchased at Walmart or any parts house, on the ends of the power wires so I can use on my pickup or motorhome. Just clip to the battery and good to go. I rarely have had to use a snatch block since it is must rolling resistance.

The wireless remote for the winch is nice to have.2000 lbs with a snatch block is plenty. The harbor freight winches are not waterproof, barely water resistant,so keep it covered or remove it when not in use.

With the extra pulley you are effectively doubling the capacity to 4000#.

Okay, I have to be stupid. What is wrong with driving the car up onto the trailer?

Just my two cents, but I would spring a few extra bucks for a larger capacity winch. I have 3000# winches on my ATV's. I seem to recall that Harbor Freight or Northern Tool has as 3000# winch at a good price and the 4000# unit isn't much more.

Thanks guys.. Just wanted to check with others to see if I was thinking right...

need thw winch causwe the rails on the side will not allow the doors to open once on the trailer.. I could I guess add a 2 X 8 where the tires go to raise the car up.. but I also use it in case someone breaks down... FAMILY can always find a use for my trailer ...LOL

Just curious how you plan to steer the car if you can't open the door? If it's through an open window, then how do you roll the window up to keep the weather out?

Based on my experience, you will never regret buying more winch but you may regret buying less. If you are planning to wire it to the pickup and the RV, you may find that a trailer mounted battery is less expensive than the cost of the battery cables needed to run the winch for both vehicles and the trailer mounted battery may give better winch performance. Just my opinion.

Well this is getting complicated. The small winch is what you want,if you go too big,the battery will need to be larger too.The smaller winch will do what you need for cheap. There are always a bunch of what if questions on here. How far wrong can you go with a $50 winch and an open car trailer?
