There are no phones currently shipping with Jelly Bean that I'm aware of so that might be difficult. The Galaxy Nexus and Samsung Galaxy 3 will probably be the first to receive it, but you can't get a phone with JB on it yet.

I would get the most recent model with decent hardware that your carrier supports.

If future upgradeability is a big concern then get a Nexus 7 since it can get its updates directly from Google. And even then don't get the Verizon version, get the Sprint or GSM version directly from Google. Verizon still manages to get in the middle and screw things up.

All phones are being continually upgraded. Get the newest version possible for the longest life.
We currently have the original i-phone 3G, 2 1/2yrs old. It is extremely slow now and MANY of the apps that we had have quit working because are not compatable with the system and upgrades are impossible. Just waiting for our contract to run out so we can get a new one with minimal expense.

Look's like you are right - mostly. I had read a TechRadar article that said the first phones would receive Jelly Bean in mid-July. When I looked up market share and found that Jelly Bean had a 0.8% market share, I assumed the TechRadar article was correct.

How to explain that it's not out but has a 0.8% market share. Trying to find the TechRadar article, I found this one, which I don't think is the same one. (It could be with different graphics.) Regardless, it repeats the mid-July release and, in an update, explains the discrepancy. According to the article, the Nexus S started receiving the update on July 19, but only in Asia. Also, the article says that ZTE has released the ZTE N880E phone with Jelly Bean. But, that is an China only phone.

Many people are running JB; I've been running it for a couple months, first on a DroidX and now on a Galaxy Nexus. The hobbyist community for Android is in the millions. Plus, there are a few tablets running it, including the popular Nexus 7.

Well from the OP first post, I highly doubt they are even remotely interested in rooting. I am talking about stock machines from the retailer.

Right, I was replying to Tom's post about where the .8% market share for JB installs comes from. I don't recommend rooting to the uninitiated either.

I thought it stayed pretty well focused. Nobody mentioined diesel, dually, or eco boost. Thanks for the tips and I will probably try a phone with 2.3 to see what it does for me.
