Just upgraded to a 2013 2500 Series Yukon XL (upgraded from a 2010 Suburban 1500)to pull our new TT better. I checked the owners manual through the GMC site prior to purchase (it still only lists the 2012 model year manual). The 2012 manual states that the 2500 series has a max tongue weight of 1500 lbs. I was surprised and disappointed to find that the 2013 manual lists no difference in tongue weight capacities between the 1500/2500 series vehicles. The 2013 is listed at 1100 lbs with WD hitch (same for 1500 or 2500 series). Does any think that they actually lowered the hitch capacity or is this just some CYA?

Yes, and now the 2500 is also 1100 not 1500 as in previous years.

I'm confused. For years people have been talking about the fact that the integrated hitch on the 3/4 ton 'Burb/Yukon have been limited to 1,000 pounds in the current generation of vehicles. I thought it hadn't been above that since 2006. Did I misunderstand something?

Haven't actually weighed my tongue weight, but max tongue weight was one of the factors which helped me decide to go to the 2500.

whether or not GM states they are the same or not, the 2500 has heavier springs,axle,brakes and likely tires as well.It will do the job exponentially better. I couldn't imagine it ever being any wheres near 1500 anyways.They weigh so much more than a pick up.

The Suburban and the non-Suburban (XL) both have receivers that are integrated
into the rear bumper for 'looks' to appease the fashion statement crowd
IMHO, those folks prefer 'looks' over 'function' (performance). I own
or purchase for function (my 'have to have' list of stuff) and if it
also looks cool GREAT (bottom of my 'nice to have' list of stuff)
By doing that, they 'had' to keep with the main duty of the rear bumper...crumple
zone duties during a crash
Since it is designed to crumple during a crash, the bracket for the receiver/bumper
has notches to create stress raisers during the crumpling of the bumper that
absorbs the crash forces
There are no after market receivers that I know of and assume that they don't
want to get into the crash/crumple zone business... Plus this crumple notched
bracket is welded to the frame rails, so any after market will either have
to have the OEM ground off, or piggy back it (not a cool looking way for the
fashion statement crowd)
With those notches (stress raisers) they also are stress raisers for towing
heavy. Assuming why GM has a 1,000 lb tongue WD weight rating
Here are some pictures taken by John of a 2010 Suburban (GMT900) showing
the integrated receiver and the notches in the bracket to frame rail. Here is

This is how it looks (integrated receiver into the bumper to lessen the view

I have a 2011 3/4 ton Burb. My manual states:
Vehicle Series Hitch Type Maximum Tongue Weight
1500 Weight Carrying 272 kg (600 lbs)
2500 Weight Carrying 453 kg (1,000 lbs)
1500 Weight Distributing 499 kg (1,100 lbs)
2500 Weight Distributing 680 kg (1,500 lbs)
But the sticker on my hitch still says:

I'm not at risk of exceeding that with my current TT, but maybe my next. When my truck warranty runs out, I am considering welding some extra support to the OEM receiver if I upgrade my TT.
I highly doubt anything mechanical changed between 2012 and 2013 as a redesign is coming soon. Maybe GM is just adjusting the manual to be more in line with the receiver now, after 6 model years.
As mentioned, the 3/4 ton will tow your TT significantly better, with nearly everything under the body different from your prior half ton version. The only complaint I have are the OEM shocks.
What is your new TT? I feel comfortable towing a TT up to about 8000 pounds dry/800 dry TW with my Burb. I'll be right at 1000 pounds of TW, and over GCWR of 16k, but the 6-spd is sweet.
