We have a 2003 Dutchmen Travel Trailer with a standard AM/FM/CD Radio built into a cabinet. The radio stopped working a few weeks ago, so I took it out to see what might be going on in the back. The radio is hard wired to the electric panel. The hot wire has a small fuse on the wire. I noticed that the fuse was burned out, so I replaced with the correct size fuse - it immediately popped too. I'm not sure where to look next. Anyone have any ideas?? Is the issue at the panel??

Thanks for your assistance..

If the inline fuse at the radio keeps going out and there are no chaffed wires, I would say it's time for a new radio.

Start by verifying that the polarity is correct.
Is it a digital radio with two volt feeds? Verify that both are same and correct polarity.
Check ground wire connection.

Enblethen, you said check the polarity. I'm not quite sure what you mean, but we haven't had the machine out of the wall prior to the issue, so nothing should have changed. Is that the polarity on the fuse?? on the back of the unit?? The direct wiring is still tight under the +/- which suggest that it may just be the radio is bad. Any other thoughts?

No work done so polarity is probably correct.
Is there a blue wire dangling coming out of radio? It could be for power antenna. When you power radio power goes out this wire when equipped with powqer antenna.

Look at the harness for the radio. See if there is a blue wire that is not connected. It normally has a label marked "antenna". Make sure it is not touching the radio housing with bare copper.

It's either a chafed wire or the radio itself is shot. Unplug the connector from the back of the radio (if it has one) and replace the fuse. If the fuse is OK, then it;s not the wiring. If it blows when you reconnect it, then the radio is bad. Something has shorted internally.

I'd put my money on the radio being shot. They're not generally the highest quality to start with. Any ol' radio will work as a replacement. Just double-check and LABEL the camper's wires before you disconnect the old one.
