We have been pulling trailers for over 20 years and have started looking at class A motorhomes. We are zeroing in on 32-35 foot gassers and found out that our 2001 Subaru Forester with automatic trans cannot be towed behind a motorhome. So we are starting to look at options for a new toad. We live in snow country and like AWD but 4x4 or front wheel will work. My question is are there any AWD vehicles that are towable? Some suggestions on high mpg vehicles that have front wheel or comparable would be appreciated. We would prefer hatchback or wagon type body style like our Forester. Also want to stay with auto trans.

The Honda CRv has been a good choice for many of us.

You can use the Remco Towing Application Charts to check vehicles that interest you.

I don't know how new you want, I purchased a 2000 CRV with 99,000 miles on it, it had been bought at the local Honda dealer and serviced at same, it was in perfect condition I have 115,000 on it now not counting towing miles, I love it. I had a 2000 tracker before the CRV is a much better Vehicle. Roy

I have a 2005 CRV from Honda and love it. They come in 2 and 4 wheel drive both so you would have a choice too.

Both the GMC Terrain and Chevy Equinox AWD can be towed 4-down and make excellent toads. They are quieter (road/engine noise), more comfortable, get better mpg, offer a V6, and have more options than the CRV and many other small vehicles used as toads today.

We spent about six months researching and driving different vehicles when we were looking to replace our older toad. We found the Terrain to be our choice.

Hope this helps

If you happen to like the Jeep lineup, they're hard to beat, but if the Wrangler or Liberty isn't your choice, then look into it further, beginning with the Dinghy guide online.
