I an looking at a Ford F250, and I and trying to get a idea on MPG on the 6.8 V 10. Also any info on the 5.4 and the 6.0 diesel would help.

I get solo 10-12 mpg around town, 12-15 mpg highway, towing 9,000# I get 8.5 to 10 mpg. I would expect the 5.4 would be slightly better solo and probably worse pulling an RV. Have no knowledge of 6 liter diesel but it should be significantly better than either gas engine if you can justify the initial cost. Watch your vehicle ratings depending on what you are planning to use it for as an F-250 can run out of payload capacity very quickly.

No personal experience with the 5.4L. In the Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forum it has been noted many times the mileage difference between a V10 and the 5.4 V8 is negligible. The towing ability difference is not.

The best I have been able to get with mine has been 15.5 solo, with 5000# behind it I only got 8.2. If I had it to do over again I would not get the 5.4, I would jump right on the 6.0 diesel. The diesel takes a marginal truck with the 5.4 and gives it the ability to pull a lot more trailer. I was trying to be penny wise when I purchased the truck, the diesel was about $2500 more but now I think it was well worth the difference. Hindsight is always better. Good luck in your search.

From what I have seen on this and on the Diesel stop forum, a 5.4 and a V-10 get about the same mileage when towing. The V-10 will no doubt pull better due to increase hoss power and torque. I checked my 5.4 mileage once, and decided that I did not want to know after that....

Besides, I am of the age where increased potty stops are not to be dissed.

And on edit, a 6 liter upgrade costs $5085.00 plus $1480.00 for the Torqueslip transmixer. I calculated the break even point seven ways, and it extends out past my life expectancy. (55 and in good health.)

I don't have a F250 but, a F150 7700#, 5.4lt,3.73, which used to be a F250 in a previous life.!! Mileage goes like this: 14 to 15 city, 19.3 and 20.3 hwy - solo, 8.7, 9.3, 9.7 and 10.3 towing.
( note: Canadian gallons ) Which by the way, now costs $ 4.20 / gal !!!!!

Bought a new F250, 4X4, SC, 4.30 last spring. On a recent trip we towed our 7000# trailer just over 6000 miles (including over the Rockies and back) and averaged 8.9 mpg while towing. Freeway mileage without the trailer (65-70 mph) is 14-15 mpg. Around town varies from 10-12 mpg. Just under 9000 miles on the truck sop far and the mileage seems to be improving a little as the engine breaks in. Love the V-10 but would have gone with the diesel if we were towing a heavier trailer.

Good luck and Happy New Year, Jim

Thanks for the Information, I would like the diesel but I do not thank the math on the extra $5,000 for the 6.0 is worth it at this time. And All the info I could get was 3rd hand and did not seem very reliable.

I average about 13-14 mpg on the highway solo and 9-9.5 when pulling the signature trailer at about #7000...
