SuperCab with 4 sp A/T and 8800 GVWR package and 3.73 Ration Limited Slip Axle. According to Trailer Life the towing weight is 13,700 pounds. I tow 5th Wheel. You talk 5 folks and get 5 variations of answer. Does anybody know exactly what that means. In other words does it mean the trailer you tow can be up to 13,700 loaded or what? Any help appreciated.
It depends on what motor you have. V10 & deisel with that rear end has a capacity of around 10,000#. 13,700# sound like a 4:30 rear end. The 5.4L V8 has a capacity of around 8,900#. With a fifth wheel, you'll need to watch the pin weight and not exceed to rear axle rating.
Yes, it is confusing. I, too, have a vehicle identical to yours. The GCWR is 20,000 lbs and my truck weighs 7000 lbs with a half tank of gas. This leaves only 13,000 lbs of towing capacity. When my wife and I get in and I put my generator and a load of firewood in the bed, the available towing capacity decreases even more.
I have only 1800 lbs of carrying capacity before the GVWR is 8800 lbs is exceeded, so that leaves very little left over for hitch weight when my wife and I get in and I put my generator and a load of firewood in the bed.
Since the RV that I want to tow can weight up to 14,000 lbs, I bought this:
