If you have a Alfa with basement air, has it ever been dropped out for service? Who did it, and how much was the bill???
I had a owner call me and ask if I would service a basement air on his 5th wheel. I said yes, what is the problem? He said the biggest problem is getting anybody to even look at it. I told him I have no problem with basement air. So he drove 25 miles for me to fix his a/c.
When he got here, I asked what side is it on, and he said it's in the middle. I could not believe they put it in the middle, behind the axels. With about 16" road clearance, the trailer would have to be put in the air to get to it. I just repair air cond, I don't have a lift. so I called the local RV dealer and he said we didn't sell it, we are not going to worry about it. Nice dealer.
I guess I'll have to ask more questions when someone wants me to look at their a/c.

Hi, I have a friend in Las Vagas,NV with a Alfa 34ft that has the basement AC and sence they first got it a few years have had nothing but trouble with it. They have to have it worked on every year and the first thing they told me when we started looking at 5ers was to stay away from basement air.. Well we settled for the Keystone Montana and just love it (no basement air) I feel sorry for anyone who puts out the kind of money that these RVs cost and can't get it worked on.... Anyway good luck...

Alfa's basement air was just one of many reasons why we got rid of our '01 Alfa Gold 5th wheel.

Go here for more about Alfa basement ACs: www.rv.net/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/CFB/1/forum/24.cfm.
I have a new 03 Alfa Sun with a basement AC unit that works very well. I have had to run it om 30 amps in Idaho when the outside temp was over 100 degrees in July and had no trouble with it. I owned a 2000 Itasca Horizon motorhome that had a basement AC and it was the noisiest unit I ever heard. We cant hear the Alfa unit running and we sit right over it in the living area. If it is bad, I am sure Alfa would fix it. Happy 5-ing

We're living full time in our '03 Alfa Sun with basement air in Las Vegas. As sirdrakeJr can attest, we have had one hot summer this year. Our air has been running 24/7 for the past two months and has been trouble free and very quiet. Sure beats a roof unit blasting over your head. Although, if you don't use your air constantly as we do perhaps that's not a problem.

I think I need to clarify my earlier post: "if it is bad I am sure Alfa would fix it." I was refering to my own unit since I don't know how old the unit is in the original poster's 5th wheel. Also, I wrote to Alfa regarding this posting. Steve wrote this back:

Thanks for the heads up. It looks like he has a 4 year old coach that needs service. Thanks for the positive postings.

If you like, you can tell him that the way to drop the AC for service is to raise the front jacks and drop the nose of the trailer, then use a floor jack under the AC.

The order to check things for causality is 1) Thermostat 2) amp readings on compressor 3) circuit board

RVP/Coleman has a customer service center that can advise him how to perform the service.

Steve

I hope this helps anyone and specifically the original poster.
