I only know of one CG that's sort near DC. It's called Morris Meadows in Freeland, MD. It's about 45 minutes or so from DC but it's a good base camp location if you plan on visiting other areas also. It's centrally located to visit Washington, Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Lancaster or Hershey, PA. If you plan on visiting these areas as well it might be something to check out. They're all about 1 hr from the CG.

As you search almost any listing or forum for "D.C. campgrounds", you will find Cherry Hill. It's the best and most convenient.

Doug, if you click on the magnifying glass in the upper right part of your screen, you can do a search on Washington, DC campgrounds. There have been many threads/comments over the past while. You'll see my comment about Cherry Hill....great spot (although somewhat pricey) if you're in a hard-sided unit. If you're in a pop-up or tent, it's way too noisy due to the close proximity to the beltway, IMHO.

Again my vote is for Little Bennett Regional Park in Clarksburg MD exit 18 or 19 I270. It's quiet, wooded, secure, good facilities with Electric hook/up with water and dump available. $16 last year

Go to the Shady Grove Metro Station leave your wheels and get day pass or longer, IT's best way around the city. Rush hour's are murder 6:30-9:30 AM 3-7 PM.

Teacher's Pet, is there public transit from Little Bennett to the Shady Grove Metro Station? We don't have a toad, but could easily move the Roadtrek if parking at Shady Grove is safe and secure, and there's no convenient transit.

We stayed at Little Bennett in April '03. I am not aware of busses from CG to Shady Grove. Parking at Shady Grove is secure and convenient and yes your Roadtek will fit in open lots.

I will second Cherry Hills. We stayed there a couple of years ago. They have a Metro station very close. I wouldn't even bother taking a vehicle into DC, it is just in the way.

The Metro is clean, fast and cheap.

Have a great trip.

No transport available

Moving RT is OK it's too much hassle. Park is secure, with gatehouse and coded access.

We stayed at the DC KOA twice, once when we were there to tour DC and another time to tour Baltimore. It's a nice campground but very expensive.

Location is good. It's located about half way between DC and Baltimore and they provide free shuttle to the DC rapid transite system to make it easy to get around. About a 20 min drive into DC if you want to drive it.

DC also has a people mover system that goes around to all the sites. I would recommend buying a pass for it. You can get on and off at any of the locations.
