For the past week, an odor (holding tank type of smell) has developed in the area beneath the kitchen sinks. It is getting stronger by the day. What could cause this, and how to fix? It is not a dry trap since we use the sinks daily. Appreciate your help.

Thanks - Steve

You might check the under sink vent. It is a one way vent valve or check valve, lets air in and not out. Most are nothing more than a rubber flapper and may be stuck in the open position. Look at the drain, it should be at a level above the goose neck.

Check under the sink and cabinet for a dead mouse.

Hey Steve,
I can relate to the bad odor from under the sink. One time long ago I had an odor that kept getting worse. I could see nothing under the sink. Finally, when I pulled out ALL the adjacent cabinet drawers I found a small sack with four very rotten lost potatoes! They smelled like my Army boot sox after a 50 mile hike.

It may be time to check your spuds! Good Luck.

You might also check to see if you have a propane leak. That smells like black water too. Have had that happen.
