I was disappointed to discover that pets are not permitted in the camping areas of Florida's State Parks. Before I settle for a private campground, I was wondering if any of you knew of boondocking areas around Destin or Ft. Walton Beach? If not, could you recommend a private campground that would be adult oriented and very low key? I do not need anything but water, a dump station and peace and quiet.

We stayed at Naverre Beach campground. Nice place, had pool, one firepit for te entire place, full hookups. nice place. I think they have a webiste and we payed around 80 for two nights. Only thing I did not like was the sewer trap was right next to the neigbors concrete pad. They will led you to your campground and and make sue you are happy with the spot before leaving. Lots of friendly people and almost every site had a dog. Naverre is a few miles west of fort walton beach.
Also are you military, if so there are several FAMCAMPS there for military in that area.

If you are looking for a little campground with not much of anything, check this place out Bay View . It is very small and pretty much unknown. We were in Florida this past spring and also stayed at Navarre Beach Campground. It is not worth it unless you get a site that overlooks the water, otherwise the sites are very close. Emerald Beach Campground (I think that was the name) is pretty much a parking lot. I heard that Topsail allows pets, but again, not on the beach. The only beach that I know of around there is just before the Destin Bridge if you are heading east. I have had my dog there twice without a problem and have seen others there, too.

Not all Florida state parks ban pets. We stayed at Henderson Beach State Park (beautiful, large, private sites) in Destin (or maybe it's Panama City) last October w/ our 90+ lb. golden retriever -- we had to pay an extra fee for him, which I think was $2/day, but he was permitted in the campground (and loved it!) There are boardwalks leading from the campground to the beach (no dogs on the beach, tho), and it was a quiet and lovely place
If you have a specific park you wish to stay in, I recommend calling in advance to see if they accept pets, since the "no pets" rule has been relaxed in recent years, and doesn't apply to all state parks.
(Our original intended destination was St. Joseph Beach State Park, which DOES NOT accept pets, so we enjoyed a few extra days at Henderson Beach!)
As of right now, the site states that pets are not permitted in campgrounds at Henderson. I had checked out that location in the past, but when I went back to the site this week, I found the notice.
TopSail looks very interesting on their webpage. Thanks for the tip.

Gene, We have a 60# lab and we have stayed at Henderson State Park. It is a very nice park. I just checked the Florida State Park web site and it says that dogs are still allowed at Henderson. Hard to find a nicer park. It is not Boondocking thought, there is a camping fee.
