Good Sam Club Joins with Take Pride In America For 2004 Cleanup Day Effort FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Affinity Group, Inc.
Tuesday April 20, 2004

(VENTURA, Calif.) - - Members of the Good Sam Club throughout the United States and Canada will once again take part in the 9th Annual Good Sam International Cleanup Day activities May 15 – 17, 2004. The entire Good Sam Club Cleanup program has been sanctioned by the National Cleanup effort, Take Pride in America. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Getting Ready for Summer” and Good Sam Club enlists the help of its members as well as the general public to clean public lands and highways.

“This has become one of our most popular volunteer events each year,” said Sue Bray, executive director of Good Sam Club. “In addition to our members, we are challenging everyone in the country to pick up just one piece of trash for Cleanup Day. By putting forth just a little effort, the amount of trash in North America’s parks and roadsides can be greatly reduced to make the areas cleaner for families to enjoy throughout the summer.”

The Good Sam Club was founded in 1966 and is the world’s largest RV owner’s organization with nearly one million member families. Good Sam members across the United States and Canada volunteer annually for National Clean-Up Day, a project aimed at beautifying campgrounds and parks, sponsored by the Good Sam Club. In 2003, approximately 160 chapters participated in the event nationwide, donating 19,000 hours to collecting over 3700 bags of trash from clean-up locations. The Club has been conducting the National Clean-Up Day program since 1996.

“This is an important year for this initiative,” said Bray. “With a financial resources shortfall for national parks on the horizon and the threat of park closings, our mission takes on special meaning.”

Members from 117 chapters have also spent 28,500 hours in 2003 participating in the club-sponsored Adopt-A-Park program, which also helps to keep parks well-maintained. Under the direction of each state/provincial director, members volunteer to take on tasks such as planting new gardens, maintaining existing landscape, building overhead shelters, cleaning up debris, welcoming visitors, manning information booths, and completing light maintenance tasks.

“Over the last eight years, hundreds of chapters have cleaned state, provincial and national parks, highways and local roads across the continent each year,” said Bray. “Good Sam Club members have collected nearly over 31,000 bags of trash in past years through Cleanup Day activities, and last year, over 10,000 people participated in Good Sam Club’s national program in parks across the continent. Their efforts have even resulted in recognition from local and state governments in their states.”
