Top Caliber National Instructors and Speakers Set for RV Safety Rally FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Affinity Group, Inc.
Thursday April 22, 2004

(Ventura, CA) – Participants at the Third Annual Good Sam VIP RV Safety Rally will get more than their money’s worth when it comes to instructors and speakers. The sold-out RV Safety Rally has secured some national caliber personalities to lead classroom and hands-on driving classes.

The Good Sam VIP RV Safety Rally is named for the money saving RV and auto insurance benefits designed for Good Sam members. The event is scheduled for May 15 through May 17, 2004. The Rally will be held at the Bosch Automotive Proving Grounds in New Carlisle, Indiana.

Directing the hands-on driving classes is Akio “Aki” Miyamoto. Aki, the owner of Vehicle Dynamics Inc. and a retired police sergeant, is currently the Lead Driving Instructor for GM in their Driver Skill Enhancement Course. He has 25 years experience in instructing safe vehicle operation and accident avoidance maneuvers. He has also been involved in the hands-on portion of the RV Safe Driving Program for the last 2 years. Aki has been responsible for the training of over 3,000 police officers and GM employees to date.

The Vehicle Dynamics Inc. driving crew is comprised of mostly retired and current police officers and fire fighters. They are experienced in the dynamics of vehicle handling and can convey the needed information in an easy-to-understand format. They are professionals and very patient with each student. They will determine the students’ level of knowledge and confidence and build upon it to obtain the best result. Aki and his team will lead hands-on driving sessions in RVs provided by Hart City RV and automobiles provided by GM.

“Our Safety Rally participants learn skills to enhance their confidence while driving or towing an RV,” said Kathy Wenzel, Marketing Manager for Good Sam VIP Insurance. “The hands-on driving portion of the Rally reinforces the skills taught in the classroom and challenges the participants to practice in situations that they would ordinarily not practice on their own. We want them prepared for all kinds of scenarios on the road and in the campground.”

Driving or towing a recreational vehicle (RV) is easier than many newcomers think and opens up a world of on-the-road travel adventure. Motorized RVs typically come equipped with automatic transmissions, power brakes and power steering. Towing skills are also readily acquired for the various types of towable RVs.

RVs do not require a commercial driver’s license for personal use. In some states, however, the very largest RVs may require a special test for a different class of driver’s license.

Greg Horn, Vice President of Material Damage Claims for GMAC Insurance, is an industry professional with over 22 years of practical experience working in such fields as automotive repair, property/casualty/RV insurance, and collision repair information services. In addition to his practical work experience, Greg is a graduate of California State University at Long Beach with degrees in Business Administration and German. Greg has also earned a certificate of translation from the University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany.

Greg Horn will facilitate a seminar about choosing the right insurance coverage for an RV. “It’s important for RVers to understand what their insurance covers in order to select the appropriate coverage,” said Wenzel. “We want to help the Safety Rally participants understand what their options are so they can travel as worry-free as possible.”

Other instructors will lead sessions on propane safety, navigation/tracking systems, fire safety, preventive maintenance, safety review and more.

The RV Safety Rally is sponsored by Good Sam VIP Insurance, the Good Sam Club, General Motors, the Recreation Vehicle Safety Education Foundation and Hart City RV.
