Astronomical Theme Highlights Coast to Coast Day at RV Rally FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Affinity Group, Inc.
Tuesday June 22, 2004

(Ventura, Calif.)—Officials of the Great North American RV Rally have declared Wednesday, June 23, as Coast to Coast Resorts Club Day. One of the major sponsors of this year’s Rally, Coast to Coast Resorts will feature keynote speakers, tours of the state’s Cosmosphere and Space Center and a grand prize drawing.
The Rally, scheduled to take place from Monday, June 21-Thursday, June 24, 2004, will be held at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, KS.

“We’re pleased to once again help sponsor this premier RV rally,” said Grant Miller, president, Coast to Coast Resorts. “Coast to Coast Day will feature informational, educational, and fun activities for Rally attendees. We’re looking forward to a great turnout.”

Highlighting Coast to Coast Resorts Club Day will be keynote speaker, Gene Kranz. Kranz served as leader of the “Tiger Team” of flight directors who brought the Apollo 13 spaceship safely back to Earth.

“Mr. Kranz is a well-respected and accomplished speaker, making a huge impact on those who hear his story,” continued Miller. “This is the second time that he has been a part of a Coast to Coast Resorts event and we’re honored that he wants to share his story with us.”

Kranz, who retired from NASA in 1994 after 37 years of federal service, is currently a consultant and speaker. Rally attendees have much to gain from his motivational message, “Failure is Not an Option,” which is themed after his motto during the Apollo 13 crisis.

Among the many honors and awards Kranz has received is the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which he received from President Nixon for the Apollo 13 mission, and his designation as a Distinguished Member of the Senior Executive Service by President Reagan.

Following his retirement, Kranz served as flight engineer on a B-17 “Flying Fortress” and constructed an aerobatic biplane. He has also published Failure is Not an Option: Mission Control from Mercury to Apollo 13 and Beyond, which has been named a New York Times best-seller.

Charles D. “Sam” Gemar, NASA Astronaut and Army Lieutenant Colonel, will also serve as guest speaker on Coast to Coast Day to share his experiences with Rally attendees.

Gemar, who received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy, has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, two National Defense Service Medals, NASA Achievement Medal, and three NASA Space Flight Medals, among many others.

On his first mission, Gemar served on the five-man crew of STS-38 which launched at night from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on November 15, 1990, during which crew members conducted Department of Defense operations. Subsequently, Gemar served on the five-man crew of STS-48 aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.

In keeping with the astronomical theme, Coast to Coast Resorts officials have arranged for an opportunity for the young adults attending the Rally to visit Kansas State’s Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson.

Individuals will depart from the Fairgrounds to the Center where they will be allowed to stroll through the Museum, learn interesting facts with regard to space and aircraft, and view replicas on display inside the museum.

“There could not be a better combination than having outstanding guest speakers and providing the teens with this opportunity,” said Miller. “They really go hand-in-hand and both will prove to be a valuable educational experience.”

Representatives from Kansas State’s Cosmosphere and Space Center will be present at the Rally on Coast to Coast Day. President Jeff Ollenburger and Vice-President/Museum Director Jim Remar will deliver two Space Exploration-related speeches to all those present at the Rally.

The Rally is sponsored by the Good Sam Club, Camping World President’s Club, Coast to Coast Resorts, Woodall’s and MotorHome and Trailer Life magazines. All are subsidiaries of Affinity Group Inc., which is headquartered in Ventura, California.
