Employees Clean Ventura Beach for 9th Consecutive Year
(Ventura, CA) – Business is always booming at Affinity Group, Inc. (AGI), but their employees are never too busy to take time out to give back to the community. In conjunction with the National Cleanup Day efforts hosted by the Good Sam Club, 24 employees of the Ventura, California, headquarters of Affinity Group donated their time and efforts to cleaning up San Buenaventura State Beach.
San Buenaventura State Beach is an extremely popular location for outdoor enthusiasts. Unfortunately, it’s often left in unfavorable conditions. AGI’s cleanup efforts aim at making the beach enjoyable for all who visit — and take place before the popular Memorial Day weekend. As a result of their efforts this year, 24 large Good Sam trash bags were filled with items ranging from old socks and shoes to bottles and buckets.
“Our employees take great pride in participating in as many community- related activities as possible,” said Mike Schneider, CEO of Affinity Group. “They constantly give of their time and efforts without hesitation, and are always looking for additional ways to get involved. We’re very proud of the job they do within the corporation and within the community.”
During the weekend of May 14-15, recreation vehicle owners from all 50 states and 8 Canadian provinces participated in National Cleanup Day, a nationwide litter cleanup event sponsored by the Good Sam Club. 2005 marks the program’s 10th consecutive year and centers on the theme, “Helping Preserve our Public Lands.” The goal of this program is to clean public areas, campgrounds and public parks that need a helping hand. To date this year, more than 5,000 bags of trash have been picked up from public lands across the nation.
National Cleanup Day was created by the Good Sam Club in 1996 to commemorate the Club’s 30th anniversary. What started out as an effort to have each Good Sam member pick up at least one piece of trash on any public land on a given day has since grown into a nationally organized effort that unites Good Sam members as well as individual volunteers.
