Thousands Gather in Redmond, Oregon, to Witness— and Help Build — it.
(Redmond, OR) – Roasting s’mores over a campfire has been a favorite part of camping for decades, but at the Great North American RV Rally in Redmond, Oregon, no campfire will be big enough to roast the s’more being constructed today.
The World’s Largest S’more will consist of about 40,000 marshmallows, 40,000 graham crackers and 14,000 chocolate bars, and will be built by volunteers today, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Construction is expected to take approximately three hours, with the final product covering 1,600 square feet.
The World’s Largest S’more is sponsored by Reserve America, and is expected to break the current record of 1,600 pounds, which was established in May, 2003. Thousands of participants and spectators from all over the country are expected to be on-hand for the activity.
The Rally began on Monday, July 11, when more than 12,000 RVers arrived in Redmond to set up camp at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center. Tomorrow will wrap up a week of fun and educational events for participants, which have included Oreo stacking contests, a dog show and entertainment provided by Ronnie Milsap, Pam Tillis, Triple Gold, and other top names in the industry.
“S’mores are enjoyed by both the young and old,” said Bev Dalton, Rally Director. “This year’s program has already proven to be one of the best ever, and we’re certain that the s’more activity will be one of the many highlights.”
RVers from all 50 states and 8 Canadian provinces have made use of the 132-acre facility where the Rally is being held. Before Opening Ceremonies began on the evening of July 11, more than 5,500 RVs had been parked on the grounds, accounting for about 12,000 people. The Good Sam Club, Camping World President’s Club, Coast to Coast Resorts, Woodall’s and MotorHome and Trailer Life magazines host the Rally.
