After Kodachrome Basin State PArk it is onto Capitol Reef NP via UT Hwy 12. This is a lovely drive going over a 9000 foot pass.
It goes by Powell Point
[image]

Then has an overlook of the Grand Escalnate Staircase
[image]

Pulls uphill into the aspens
[image]

And gives a view of the Henry Mtns - the last mapped mountains in the lower 48 states.

Capitol Reef NP is a large uplift along with the San Rafael Swell that to early pioneers looked like ocean reefs. Hence the name. Here is the backside of part of it.

The Mormons settled in Fruita and planted fruit trees. Today you can pick fruit for a $1 a pound. The apples are delicous
[image]

Then a hike up to Hickman bridge
[image]

Where we saw this bighorn sheep relaxing
[image]

Then it is off to Goblin Valley SP. Where we camped in the shadow of Molly's Castle
[image]

Here are some Goblins (small mud and clay formations)

Can you pick out the goblins?

A close up
[image]

Did I mention Happy Hour?

Then off to Natural Bridges NM. But first a stop at the Hite overlook at the top of Glen Canyon.

Here is a view of Kachina Bridge which is one of 3 in the park.

Horse Collar Indian ruins are just upstream
[image]

You can hike down into the canyon. I think Owachomo bridge is the most spectacular
[image]

Wildflowers along the canyon bottom
[image]

Then it is off to Monument Valley via UT 261 and the Moki Dugway

A view of the valley below with Valley of the Gods rd.

Oh man, does this bring back great memories. We were there last year and the year before. I would love to go back and boondock at Goosenecks and revisit Natural Bridges NM - beautiful hidden gem. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Thank you for the preview of our trip. We are going to do almost this same route next fall. Those are some nice pictures too.
The camper did not get out of the driveway all summer, but the Harley did (7600 miles). (we are going to the coast this weekend to finally exercise the camper) It looked like your group got their exercise on some nice hikes too.
Thanks, KEN

I (2-10-05) bought a 2002 F350 CC SWD PSD and a new 2003 Citation 10'8. I have been a tent camper all my life. I wanted more comfort while camping and CraterLake Ski Patrol.
It's time for more space. I purchased a 2016 Grand Design 380TH as of 10-29-2015.
