We went up to the Laguna Mountains east of San Diego this last weekend. The main purpose of the trip was to set up telescopes and show the beautiful sights of the night sky to 125 people from my elementary school. Many of the people who attend this event are first time campers and most only camp during this annual end of the school year event. I usually don't stay in campgrounds but for this event I always make an exception. It is a nice campground with good trails for hiking and biking. The main telescope I used for this event is a 10 inch Meade. Great scope but it seems to get heavier each year.

Here is our campsite on the edge of the Laguna Meadow.

Little Laguna Lake has about 2 feet of water but you can't see the water because the grass is 3 feet tall. If you look across the lake and to the left of the rocks you can see our camper on the edge of the Laguna Meadow.

Big Laguna Lake is about a mile hike from the campground. This photo is looking south from the east side of the lake. Laguna Meadow is quite large and surrounds this lake.

Here is the view of Big Laguna Lake looking north.

It was a very hot weekend and so my dog Wylie spent as much time in the water as possible.

We saw cowboys rounding up a herd, lots of mountain bikers, too many kids to count climbing on the rocks and catching snakes and frogs, and too many stars in the sky to count.

Finally here is a picture a friend took at the star party as the Milky Way rose over the Laguna Meadow about midnight Friday night.

Great pictures! We were there that weekend also, above you at site 77 (Ford F250 4x4, Lance 925 camper). Friday afternoon when we arrived I drove around Meadow Loop and saw your truck. Nice rig!

We spent the weekend on our mountain bikes looking for Geocaches. Found a bunch. I think I saw your group looking for some also?

You should let us know what kind of scope you use. Great pics.

sirdrakejr-
I use a Meade LX200R 10 inch telescope. It is fairly easy to set up and great for star parties because of its ability to track. Many people can view the same object without me having to constantly adjust the scope.

Thanks for sharing! I usually camp at Laguna Meadow on the weekdays of the first week in June and am missing it this year because I'm on the road in Idaho. Great campground, usually good wildflowers, and lots of good trails nearby.

One of Socal's mountain bike mecas runs right past there.

Great shots, seems like it recovered well from the fires of years past. Thanks for the shots.
