We made a little trip there this weekend. I am from there originally and we tooled around looking at some of the stuff I have'nt seen in 25 years.
It is the first time with the TC on the new truck and I can't tell ya how tickled I was with the way it handled. I don't believe I am going to have to mod the suspension. Any how, some pics..
Natural bridge at Pomona Il. I put my wife and sis in the pics to give some sense of scale.

Bald Knob cross near Alto Pass. A few folks are trying to restore it. I think I remember it being the tallest free standing cross in the western hemishere. i could be wrong. Still quite a site to see. This pic is from Alto Pass a couple miles East.

And up near it.

The view SSE. If you look hard, you can see the Mississippi River in the right side of the shot.

We cut across some county roads to come out at Makanda Il. and Giant City State Park. There is a rock wall on top of one of the bluffs that prehistoric people built as a fort.

The wall is sorta tumble down but, you can just see it to the left.

Everything is green this year.

The park lodge.

A covered bridge that I have wanted to stop and see for years. This one is over the Embarras River near Greenup Il.

That's probably enough. Hope you enjoy this report and as always..You don't have to go far from home to have a good time.
Oh wait...I have one more....
Wanna see my Grand daughters?

Many thanks for showing folks around Southern Illinois. Next time take a tour down the wine trail that is nearby. In fact, I think you visited Alto Pass that is in the center of the wine region, so you very well may have visited the vineyards. If you have some interesting pics please post them. And those are beautiful grandchildren.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, I am particuliarly fond of Southern Ill, I lived there from 1970 to 1990 and hit every trail, and lake in the area... We used to ride motorcycles all over the Shawnee National Forest and camp around Panthers Den, and Hutchens creek, and boat Crab Orchard Lake... Wow what memories. Ironically I am planning to take the TC back late summer and visit friends and see if some of the ole swimming holes are still around...
