My wifes birthday falls within a couple of days of Veterans Day. This means she can typically have an extended weekend birthday party away from work. This year with a little juggling we had 5 days. When I asked her what she wanted to do for her birthday getaway she picked a TC trip to Yosemite. What a woman...

As the weekend approached we watched the weather forecast get worse by the hour. Our plans included hiking, fishing and resurrecting the mountain bikes. The bikes had been languishing in the garage attic for too long and the Yosemite Valley is perfect for exploring on two wheels.

When the appointed hour arrived we rolled the dice and hit the road with a forecasted 3 days of rain and the temps 56/25 degrees. Apparently many people don't have our sense of adventure or have more common sense. But here's what we found on arival. The campground was a ghostown. I've seen Yosemite in the winter but this was a first. Nobody, nada...

We picked a place to camp with a branch of the Merced River at our back door and setup. It was soo quiet just the sounds of the river.

The next morning we hiked up the river to acquainted the fish but apparently they hadn't come out for the weekend either...

Next we tried the bikes and found them to be a great way to get around in the valley especially without having to dodge pedestrians and cars. It was a little chilly as you can see with the snow on the ground but a ride over to the Ahwahnee Hotel for an Irish coffee took the chill off. [emoticon]

The rest of our trip was hiking, biking and enjoying the jawdropping scenery.

As it turned out we only had one day of rain. Nothing we couldn't handle and it brought a new freshness to the forest.

This is my favorite shot of the storm aftermath.

Well thanks for coming along. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. If you get the chance to visit Yosemite in the Fall you're in for a real treat.

Very nice. Furthest west we have gotten so far is Yellowstone. We would love to get there one day.

There is nothing like Yosemite without all the people. We just made our reservations for March 1012 and can't wait. This past spring we were there the first week in April and we had the place pretty much to ourselves just as in you picture. It is great hiking in the valley without the crowds of summer.

It was a great time. We were camped right next to you in the Eagle Cap. You have a nice rig and wanted to talk to you about your rear step handrail. Did you make that?

Heck yes, a good looking trip report. What a piece of luck to have the place to yourselves, too bad the fish were holed up somewhere. You're right Steve, the last picture is definitely wallworthy. I have to ask, did you remember how to ride?? [emoticon] Catch you later...
