RE: 1989 Ford 460 E 350 not running, need help

My old 88 had the exact same situation and noise. (88 was actually 1st year for F.I.) It was the cat.One sign to look for is evidence of heat on exhaust before the cat...like a blue tint.

RE: Tioga Won't Budge after long neglect. Help, please.

Nice write up! My fill and vent hoses are 1 piece.I cleaned them up with some lacquer thinner and they will be OK.The parts store replacement filler is too thick and not pliable enough to work.
My main concern with the tank removal was spinning out the heads of the carriage bolts on the passenger side.Driver's side has U nuts over the frame and the bolts should come out.Nothing was real rusty.I do have a transmission jack that should work but I guess I will have to struggle with the rest of it like you did.
I think I mentioned in a previous post something about the gas gauge not being correct with the complete pump and housing replacement. The fuel pickup might not be low enough to suck much gas with 8 gallons. If that vacuum line is pinched , disconnected,or damaged,it will throw a fault code but the engine will still run OK.

RE: Tioga Won't Budge after long neglect. Help, please.

How's the project coming along? I've been following your thread.Anyway... My E450 has been sitting since last fall so I thought i'd get it running and check things out.Guess what.Crank no start, fuel pump.My setup looks exactly like yours. One question...Was the filler and vent hose covered with some ungodly black stuff that you managed to get all over yourself and everything else you came in contact with, like carbon black?Did you find a source for that hose? Thanks!

RE: Tioga Won't Budge after long neglect. Help, please.

The 3d line is for the evap system,an emissions thing. On the pump...buy the pump only kit with the screen, wire harness, seals, and install it on the original housing. If you use the whole assembly like you bought, odds are the gas gauge will be off and the pick up tube will be the wrong length.

RE: RV salvage

Ford engine parts are fairly easy! There is nothing fancy or RV only for drive train parts. You can get some good parts at an auto/ light truck salvage yard.
What do you need exactly?
I stumbled into a REALLY nice 1977 class C that I am restoring.Somebody decided they needed the engine.I do have a fresh 460 and a C6 trans for it but am looking for all the accessory pulleys and brackets which are fairly unique to the E series.

RE: E-450 Stuck on Defrost Mode

If ac is always on defrost and not just under load,it might just be the red line broken or disconnected.Nice video! Wish I'd seen it before I fixed mine...

RE: Towing 6,500 pounds with a class C

Not recommending this but just my experience...I have a 2002 31ft class C,E450,V10,air bags with 30 lbs. air.Myself and a couple friends go on 2 trips a year, for many years, averaging 1500 miles a trip, sometimes more. The three of us are at least 750 lbs of meat and the RV is loaded for bear. The boat weighs approximately the same as yours,175 lbs of tongue weight.Never had any real issues.Backing the rig at the ramp is way easier than people think.Guys freak out thinking we will tie up the ramp but we're usually faster than everybody.Anyway...Brakes are the biggest thing.Make sure the trailer and chassis brakes work correctly.Don't take any chances with tires and check pressures frequently. You won't pass anybody going up hill but find the gear and keep the V10 wound up.To sum up,this rig goes good and stops good, and it's done it for many miles under many different conditions.

RE: HVAC - No Compressor run

To add to what Doug said,if the compressor relay is bad, replace board.right? You probably know that the boards aren't that cheap. I had multiple relay failures(freeze sensor was bad and cycled the compressor every few seconds). and got tired of buying boards.So...if you have soldering ability, you can get the exact same relay on eBay or other places for a couple bucks and fix your board.Desolder,solder...really easy.
