RE: Recommend Good E-450 Dash AC Repair, SoCal

The "band-aid" fix I use is a permanent repair using all factory parts, replacing the failure prone poorly designed original setup.

RE: Burning electrical smell from furnace

Ozone and burn smells are 2 different things. Ozone is created by arcing or sparks, burn is...burn, as in wire insulation.Since you have seemingly checked everything on the furnace, just for kicks, check the shore power breakers for loose, corroded, burnt connections. If you were ever in a low voltage situation, that stuff gets hot and compromises the breakers and connections without tripping the breakers.

RE: time to replace brakes?

Apples and oranges here but when replacing shoes on my Dexter axle boat trailer(surge brakes),Dexter wanted $150 a side.I went to my go to guy at Oreillys and he thought they looked like 80s Chevy shoes. He grabbed a couple boxes from the back and we compared them. One was a direct match, even the stamping marks on the steel were exactly the same.$30 a set for the best ones they had.

RE: Can you name that sound (squeaking)?

Have hub caps? Check for the edge of the cap squeaking against the tire.Sounds crazy but mine had a wheel speed squeak and that's all it was.Was about ready to pull everything apart till I accidentally figured it out.

RE: 2006 Ford E450 Transmission issue

Does anyone know if you can lock the transmission in overdrive if you select 3rd gear? That would reduce fluid temps on a long hill. Your trans has 4 forward gears. 4th is OD. 3rd is direct/1:1. 3rd and higher rpm’s will run cooler all things equal. The trans kinda has 5 forward gears,1 2 3 OD and converter lock up.It normally shifts 1 2 3,lock,OD.If in the 3 position, converter will lock but not shift to OD.This is the least heat generating condition but will come out of lock on a hard pull. The converter then slips which causes heat build up...can be bad news on a super long grade. If it seems to struggle even in tow haul, manually down shift.Less engine effort = less heat. That noise problem could very well be a cat problem as previously mentioned.Happened to me. Loss of power, hissing type of sound, pull over, noise quits, runs ok again, maybe for days before it happens again.Ended being a chunk of whatever is in the cat lodged itself in the tail pipe at speed, fell away at low rpm and apparently stayed there till who knows when.Might be worth looking into if you can't figure it out.

RE: 1989 Ford 460 E 350 not running, need help

My old 88 had the exact same situation and noise. (88 was actually 1st year for F.I.) It was the cat.One sign to look for is evidence of heat on exhaust before the cat...like a blue tint.

RE: Tioga Won't Budge after long neglect. Help, please.

Nice write up! My fill and vent hoses are 1 piece.I cleaned them up with some lacquer thinner and they will be OK.The parts store replacement filler is too thick and not pliable enough to work. My main concern with the tank removal was spinning out the heads of the carriage bolts on the passenger side.Driver's side has U nuts over the frame and the bolts should come out.Nothing was real rusty.I do have a transmission jack that should work but I guess I will have to struggle with the rest of it like you did. I think I mentioned in a previous post something about the gas gauge not being correct with the complete pump and housing replacement. The fuel pickup might not be low enough to suck much gas with 8 gallons. If that vacuum line is pinched , disconnected,or damaged,it will throw a fault code but the engine will still run OK.

RE: Tioga Won't Budge after long neglect. Help, please.

How's the project coming along? I've been following your thread.Anyway... My E450 has been sitting since last fall so I thought i'd get it running and check things out.Guess what.Crank no start, fuel pump.My setup looks exactly like yours. One question...Was the filler and vent hose covered with some ungodly black stuff that you managed to get all over yourself and everything else you came in contact with, like carbon black?Did you find a source for that hose? Thanks!
