RE: Getting Confused on what can I tow

I think, if I wanted to know the tow limits on my vehicle (regardless of make) I'd contact the Manufacturer, (Chevy, Ford Dodge) or whatever, rather than asking someone who is trying to sell me an RV. Most RV salesmen will tell you that you can tow a Tank with a VW Beetle.:R Well weren't some tanks shaped liked Beetles?? LOL

RE: Great Tow Capacity - Bad Payload Capacity... Increase PL?

Bought a '15 F350 SRW, SB, CC, 4x4, 6.7 in late '14 thinking this would be my last truck and 'nuff truck for whatever we threw at it. Yes it was rated at 11,500 GVW and over 3,000 weight in back.......again thinking' No Problem Zeb"! Come early '17 we upgraded RV's and despite the 350's ratings/capacities, we were over on everything. We towed the entire '17 season w/o any problems, but nagging feeling in pit of my stomach that wouldn't go away knowing we were over things. Granted a few hundred pounds, but still over. Now in '18 we decided our summer/big trip was to FL in Aug in total height/heat of summer. The nagging feeling got a whole lot worse as tires were the weakest link. In short, ended up w/ '17 F350 DRW, CC, 4x4, 6.7 and no worries. DW said she feels more comfy when she drives it towing the RV compared to previous truck. In case your wondering: empty wt of RV....14,000, max wt.....16,000, pin when fully loaded.......3700, RV fully loaded.....15,980.

RE: 5th Weel vs. TT - Length Off Tow Rig

By maxed out are you talking about site length or maneuvering into the site? If it's site length, and you disconnect the truck, the trailer length is the trailer length. In some cases where the front of the trailer needs to be raised to be level when parked, you can get the truck bed under the front over hang. That doesn't happen often for me. Dang ! 2 for 2!!! I Agree as well!!! Our coach is 41' alone. Ironically, our "shorter" 4 place V-nose snowmobile trailer is the same overall length as the 5erm is hooked up to truck. There was 1x I had an issue backing into a site with our previous 5er which was 35' and shorter truck only because the camper opposite us didn't move his truck and instead simply folded his arms and-laced them on his hood and watched me. No problem w/ OAL of things tho.

RE: Tires and their pressures

You called the manufacturer of the tires and they told you the correct information. If you don't want to weigh your rig running your tires at the max inflation value on the tire will not hurt anything other than your kidneys from the rough ride. The door sticker only applies to the original tires that were on your truck. If you replace them with the exact same tires that door sticker will still apply. If you replace them with anything else go by the tire or the load/pressure table provided by that tire manufacturer. I agree with this as well.

RE: New truck pricing

2 thoughts here. 1. Order what you want and get it the way you want it. Then wait. 2. I agree that w/ all the trucks sitting around (both Ford and GM.....dunno about Ram), I would tend to think that the mfr's would want to unload them ASAP once they get the "parts" in, therefore discounting them. My $.02.

Trailer Life Forum going belly up?

Since TL magazine is no more, I'm not a fan of the new RV mag and it seems that there isn't as much traffic on here. Does the new mag have a forum and if so, is it killing the TL forum? Have been a TL subscriber since early 2000's, but really considering letting sub expire.

RE: Opinions on 5th Wheels with Island Kitchens

The island we have in our Big Country is fantastic! Very large ends to put/prep food and when sink covers are used a great buffet area. Not too much counter space besides stove. Sofa is on end like most floorpans and when it's deployed, we can still put a twin size air mattress between island and table. Access to fridge is ok via 1 side of doors (French door) w/ slides in. As others have said, it boils down to what you like/fits your needs best.

RE: 40’+ limitations?

To be more direct to the concern of the op I would not let the length of a fiver dictate the floor plan of what I really wanted. If a 40 footer has the layout of what you really like vs a 32 footer that is just ok I would go with the 40 footer. If you don't you will be sorry down the road. Spoken very well as that's the exact advice we got back in '04 when we were looking at getting our own RV.

RE: Brakes for 2017 F350 DRW

EBC Orange Towing Pads are AWESOME. Be sure to lube calipers and turn rotors. You will thank me. Thought I did by joining the B&W club! LOL As always folks, Thank you very much for the suggestions. Tire rotation due in 1k miles, so will ask shop to let me see pads. For the 1 reply, looking at just pads/rotors.. I agree I don't think they should be worn down a whole lot, but if for whatever reason they were, trying to get ducks lined up.

Brakes for 2017 F350 DRW

This is kinda a multi faceted question. Currently have about 34k on truck. No pulsing and what I'd consider normal fade at this point (but this is subject to each persons view). So here goes: 1. What's ave life span on factory brakes (not 100% hi-way use)? 2. What's best brand to go with? 3. Replace pads only or both? 4. Best place to get pads/rotors from? 5. Best time of year to do if still okay? (ok I'll take the heat on this one as it's a silly one.....but) I don't know how current pads look as I'm not in shop when tires are rotated. Just really thinking ahead and formulating a game plan. TIA

RE: Size Matters???

We went from a 35' bunkhouse w/ 4 people to a 41' rear LR, front BR with a slide-n-slide for 2 people and love it.. Common folks would say it should have been the other way around, but we bucked that term. In the process we also had to upgrade truck to a DRW diesel. The extra room the new coach provides is awesome. Tho only our 2nd RV, it could be our last as well........at least for a long time. YES it does pose a problem if we want to stay in state and NP's, but don't have a prob if we have to travel a bit more. Many replies all pretty much say, that Botton line it's what ever you feel comfy with and I also like the suggestion about a 38' as a compromise. A heavier coach will ride better and sometimes translates into a better built one. Like what others have said too, advertised pin weight is a misnomer, but on ave, add another several hundred pounds. DO tho go by max GVW for the RV. As an example: our advertised pin was 2800 = actual 3700 (fully loaded). Dry weight is 14,000, max is 16,000, fully loaded, 15,980. Over on all accounts w/ the '15 F350 SRW we had. Yes I MISS the SRW, but the DRW handles the rig w/ ease. Could I have kept the '15? Yes. Legal and safe, NO. I say no cuz if involved in a accident, some sue happy att'y would find out and then it's OS time. Stay within limits of your truck and let the smiles begin.

RE: Upper New York Fall Trip

If your travels bring you a tad further east or in CNY, Villages RV Park at Turning Stone Casino (1/2 hour east of Syracuse/I81) and plenty to do see things and Lafayette NY is home to many apple orchards. Just a suggestion.

RE: Check those prices

Dieselfilters on line out of NJ is where I get mine from Good prices and fast service! Few years back during a -20* cold snap, my 350 jelled up. Local dealer was booked but said to go to their sister dealer who sold Lincolns. They quoted me close to 500 bucks for diagnosis and new filter. Told them to pound salt. Got a new fuel filter at that time from NAPA for 100 bucks (stealer wanted 150). On line from NJ.........$50 bucks.

RE: Loss of Power after New Fan Clutch

Put on an electric fan. No electric fan can move as much air as the stock clutch fan on these trucks. That's why they use them. I think the reason he mentioned it was to get air moving thru the rads so the main eng fan wouldn't be engaging as much
