RE: Cost to add AC Unit

Probably one of the best low profile units is the Penquin( id go with the 15000 btu unit)...nice looking but on the high end price wise.

RE: Help identifying wires, please

You could ohm test each wire to ground? I know sometimes this is hard to do but it's a thought.

RE: to plug in or not to plug in when mhome is at home

Just to take a different approach, I've had my mh for roughly 20 years, 17 of those years I always plugged into my 50 amp rv plug in the driveway and left the charger portion of the inverter/charger on. I changed it now to a dual battery tender...I prefer this set up.

RE: Age old question....but??

On a related thought, the 12 charging/electrical has always been an issue somewhat on my older 96 Vogue, from figuring out the Duvac alternator to the old Sure Power battery isolator and to the Aux start solenoid. Makes a long story short , I've changed things up quite a bit over the years. For reasons that I can't fully explain in full here, I was thinking of separating the solar to my house/chassis batteries. Since I have a residential fridge, I want to be sure my chassis battery has no chance of discharging. I accomplish this now via two means, one is the use of the motorhome battery cut off solenoid and the other is hard wired battery switches near by batteries( on that subject, I have 6-6 volt house and 1-12 volt 8d as a chassis battery ) .... I'm thinking 6-800 watts of panels, using a PWM controller for maybe 100 watts to the chassis and a MPPT for the remainder of watts to my house batteries. Ok....I know that's a lot to read, but your thoughts are sought and appreciated.

RE: Age old question....but??

Angled aluminum sounds like an interesting thought....in that way, the brackets could be cut as needed. I'll have to check into that. Thanks???? thanks to all for ideas!

Age old question....but??

So I think I'm almost ready to put a few solar panels up on my fiberglass roof. The only thing I'm really concerned with is the mounting? For lack of imagination at this point. Let's assume I'll be using 4 Z brackets for Panel...and yea, I'll screw them down but I'm wondering what else....the 3M tape? The 4000 or 5200 adhesive sealant? Eternabond adhesive sealant? Should I use more Z brackes? Anyways, the whole idea is to be extra confident that the panels are staying where mounted. Thanks for any input....

RE: New Cell Phone Choice

I've been happy with the Moto G phones but I'm not really a techie when it comes to them in general. I have kind of switched things around recently in order to have that tethering/streaming option. Just so happens, our "Visible" group has one spot open at 25.00 a month( Verizon network), I figure for this price, it's just an extra phone. Add to that our T mobile "senior" account and I went ahead and splurged on the "Togo" via AT&T...hopefully, I'll have a cell/data signal on one of another. If anyone is interested in "Visible" let me know, things have slowed considerably in getting and keeping a group of four to get the 25.00 rate.

RE: Covid 19 high risk poll

Just for a slight ray of hope.... I recently recovered from Covid 19, a doctor that I had for my Valley Fever whom I know fairly well, had a patient in the hospital with Covid 19 in critical condition. With all the chatter regarding "Convalescent Plasma" it was a No Brainer for me to Donate for this patient. Now without revealing those person's, places and things involved, the ICU doctor and my doctor did not expect this patient to make it through the weekend. I don't know everything that was involved due to Privacy issues but I do know this person did make it through the weekend and LUNG wise, where it was critical condition was now in stable condition. I only mention this here because if you or anyone you know has made a recovery, Donating blood/plasma is needed. It's use is generally in the most severe of cases and while it may not work every time, it is another weapon in a doctors arsenal to combat the horrid conditions of this Virus. The larger the Data Base with Donors, the more patients that can be helped. It is Blood type specific so the need is for all Blood types. Sorry for my long winded "PSA" message but just wanted to throw it out there. MODERATOR'S EDIT: Per the site Admin's request, I am closing all COVID-19 threads and directing future comments to one thread in Around the Campfire. 2019–20 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC POSTINGS

RE: Covid 19 high risk poll

Both 65, history of Valley Fever and asthma for me. Have already had one cruise cancelled and have Alaska cruise scheduled for August( don't have a lot of confidence it will sail). No RV trips planned at the moment or until we get a better handle on exactly what's happening.

RE: No 12V power to prewired back up camera

If it's like my friends trailer, that camera only works when you are hooked up to truck and your parking lights are on( your lights on). It only gets power then.

RE: coronavirus...put it into perspective

Just to lighten the mood a tad.....with everyone sheltering in place and not so many cars on the road( I was amazed at the 405 freeway being almost completely empty and the Las Vegas Strip looking like a ghost town),,,shouldn't our car Insurance rates go down a tad. I haven't driven my car for at least two weeks now and it will probably be another two before I might! Just to throw it out there???

RE: What can I do to revive an old VHS recorder/player

I had somewhat of a dilemma a few months ago....you know how you can always get great deals on VHS tapes at Thrift Stores...well I found myself always picking up a few. I then realized that my VCR no longer functioned. For 5 bucks, I picked up a combo VCR/DVD player at another Thrift store and it works great.

RE: Ft. Ord Dunes Campground

I didn't open the link but is this CG going to be located at the Army training site? I know its been a FEW years since Fort Ord was indeed a "Boot Camp".

RE: Trip out west, YNP, Glacier. Which cell booster to get?

I went with the RV65....I do use an omni antenna connected to it when traveling then set up the directional on a mount when stationary! Only had it this last trip and happy with it so far.

RE: Can I put a sprocket made for a keyed shaft on a D bore?

I'd check with "Spacely" to see if the proper sprocket is available. Say Hi to George,Jane, Judy, Elroy and Astro while waiting for your sprocket!!! Sorry, I couldn't help myself when I read "sprocket". Merry Christmas all!!! OK, Happy Holidays too.????

RE: TOGO Problem

I did send a note off to Winegard and I got some info. Winegard will supply the Admin Code which I assume is needed to change SIM"s?? They also related that AT&T will offer a yearly plan still but capped at 100 GB along with monthly GB plans also. I bought the ToGo as a back up device so for my application, I'm not going to stress over AT&T and how they treat their customers....I should already know this by how screwed up Direct TV is now!!

RE: Portable Satellite Antenna

That's good info regarding watching channels on different Satellites. I'm happy to hear that most programming on Dish comes from one SAT( As you said conflicts can occur but not often). Thanks

RE: Portable Satellite Antenna

Not to derail this topic but while we are at it...I have an older King Dome 9762LP which seems compatible with Dish Network satellites BUT I'm wondering if its compatible with a Wally receiver? I'm getting ready to pull this Dome antenna and an older Datron dish off my roof but if the in motion still works with Dish Network, I'll keep it up there. Disregard....called King Dome and got the answer. :-)

RE: Portable Satellite Antenna

I agree with what "Mr. Satellite" has said....the HR24 or H24 receiver will work with the single LNA/LNB round Dish(Domed Sat) now and when the change over takes place BUT try to get Direct to supply you with those particular receivers! I did, talking with roughly 10 different Reps and about 5-6 supervisors. Yes, you can buy these receivers BUT then play Hell getting a bought receiver activated. And even after you do all this, you will be at the mercy of Direct TV as to what they decide to put on the HD 101 Satellite. I Got tired of all the BS, fighting to keep what will amount to a less than prefect system. After well over 20 years with Direct, they have lost me as a customer....I know, I know, don't let the door hit me on the way out, but that's OK...they can do without me as well as I can do with them.

RE: Portable Satellite Antenna

I know exactly how you feel...decisions-decisions!!!! Honestly, I'm thinking "Streaming" may be a viable option but many places I RV don't have such great coverage for Data. Oh well...Good Luck!
