RE: Our first extended trip with a dog

We use the X-pens(as they are called) all the time but we are generally sitting within them while the "kids" are outside. At last count we carry 3 such pens with us so as to give us a larger area to sit with them(then being four rescued doggies). I make a complete rectangle so that they cannot get under the RV or stair step. With a smaller non leaping doggie, I'm sure you could get by with the 24" models(smaller and lite weight). Since we have a jumper..we have the 40" models. We Love them!!

RE: Suggestions on routes from Las Vegas to Furnace Creek, DVNP

Just for some quick info, while in Pahrump last year we took a ride out to Amargosa Valley Casino/RV Park as we were going to use that RV Park as our gateway to DV and the 49'er event which takes place in DV each year. Long story short...even though we didn't stay at the RV Park there, I can tell you that its relatively inexpensive(25.00 a night Full 50amp hook up) and fairly nice with a pool and spa and the Casino, although small has a couple of places to eat that aren't half bad! I know the turn off into DV was just down the road a piece.... just in case, for info only.

RE: Rear view camera for trailer

I did go ahead and purchase the one Amazon had on a Lighting Deal, its a two camera system with a 7' monitor wireless. I can't speak to its function as of yet because it probably won't get installed until I start on my list of adjustments (punch list) from my last 3 month trip. I always have a list after time on the road and this camera replacement was one such item. I won't put all my eggs in one basket, I'll keep my wired camera too. Now, this new system is from ZerozClub… after reading the comments, mostly favorable, I read where if prompted, you could get higher gain antenna's to attach to both Camera and receiver. I contacted the manufacturer and the antenna's arrived one day after the system. Excellent Service so far and the item comes packaged well....They also have a special offer for a newer Dash Camera. Long story short, I'll rate this system once installed and let you know the deal on the dash cam if/when I get it.

RE: A sense of guilt

Frequently the Dog you are feeling guilty about is the one who is Running free at the Rainbow Bridge not the one of your Desire. They can also be one in the same. The psychology of adopting is generally put on the back burner once you first lay eyes on the adoptee....heck, my wife and I, feel both fortunate and unfortunate that our county only allows four dogs per household otherwise we would be known as the "Crazy Cat person with Dogs"!! :B:B

RE: Washington State

I'm thinking that Oregon and Washington might be my cup of tea this coming summer too! Leave the deserts for another trip....with that being said, I did many of the Oregon Thousand Trail Parks a few years back but didn't go any further north into Washington so I'll be watching here too for suggestions and Idea's for this coming year.

RE: A sense of guilt

Its odd how Dog people feel about guilt! If you have been following my latest adoptions over the past several months, you know that we adopted a brother and sister pair who were 13 years old(that was in August). The Brother passed away suddenly 4 weeks ago now. Then all of a sudden another 12 year old became available 2 weeks ago and we felt as though that maybe we should not adopt so soon after losing our precious "Elvis" and then on the other hand, its a 12 year old that needs a Home(forever)… "Potter" our latest adoptee fits right in with our other 3 adoptee's. WE, as a group here, LOVE our doggies!!!

RE: I adopted a Collie. ( Update 1st post)

Before we started down our Cavalier rescue efforts we adopted Collies. The very first full Collie we had came from a County Shelter. Both my wife and I were working the day "Laddie" came up for adoption, so Mom and Dad(RIP) came over and said they would pick up this 5-6 month old Collie. My Mom had her lap all ready for a puppy but as you know, a 6 month old Collie is not necessarily a lap dog even though in later years, he was my Lap doggie! Just a funny story from some 40 years ago, but a good memory! Good Luck in your adoption process!!!

RE: History of the Grand Canyon

I agree with the sediment "to each, his own" whether you find a geological wonder interesting or not! It does cause me pause when I hear the Grand Canyon described as nothing more than a River Gorge, just as those that think you can see Yellowstone in its entirety in a single day(been there done that type attitude), or Glacier Natl Park is a drive through adventure. I have this visual of Mom and Dad getting all excited to see a Natural Wonder, the kids/teenagers riding in the back seat with their heads burried in a Video Game! Yes, they were there, yes they looked up occassionly so that they could say they saw it and they were there but not knowing a single element to what makes it a National interest. Just my take on things...your mileage may very well differ!!

RE: Roof vent lid gone... how did this happen?

I've had one of those "Turbo" Vent covers over my vent lid/fan for 15+ years....still as solid as can be and it keeps the vent lid from becoming so brittle, also great for leaving the vent open when its raining.

RE: Rear view camera for trailer

On another note, Amazon has today(2/12) on there daily Deal's they have the "Zero Club" wireless two camera system. Its 75.00 dollars off the regular price, (which makes it approx. 195.00). I know absolutely nothing about this other than out of 100+ reviews, it gets high ratings.

RE: Rear view camera for trailer

Try not having one in a diesel pusher where you can't see the car your towing nor would you hear or feel anything if the car was still there or not, or was on fire or had a blow-out...you get the picture. No wait, if you didn't have a rear view, you would not get the picture! LOL :-)

RE: Rear view camera for trailer

I am also looking into a reasonably priced rear view system. I did go the cheap route on Amazon and had fair results for many years. I actually used and still using a License Plate Camera(wireless). The problem with the cheaper models is the intermittent operation as in going over a bump might cause the screen/camera to go off and on. I've just grown tired of this hence I want something better..wireless preferred but I could go wired too since I have the old wires still back there. I'll keep my eye on this thread.

RE: Well it has

25,000 posts! Opinionated much? Yep, I have a slightly different take of this too. Over my, what 17 years +/- on this forum, which I think I've been active on, I have a grand total of 5000 give or take Posts. I guess if you do more reading than commenting, your less likely to get involved in the bustle of it all. Sure, we all get a tad hot under the collar on occasion but some of us are our own worst enemies when it comes to posting here. I have always tried to treat others here the way I have always wanted to be treated whether that person is new or old. I've seen plenty of people come and go and there are plenty of other RV'ing Forums to fall back on and Yes, Facebook too. With that being said, I still come back here as my standard. I come here looking for input, information and experience NOT arguments. Someone with a History of 25,000 posts should have a pretty good understanding how things work but if you must go, Happy RV'ing just the same!So Don has averaged less than 5 post a day and you have averaged 1 a day since joining. Not much difference really and you call him opinionated. Could that be part of the problem here? Just an observation. Yes...I have to say it, but 5 times as many Posts in a shorter period of time is....well in my VERY opinionated opinion is "a lot more"! Nonetheless, why bother to come here and announce that you are leaving if only to stir up more ****, the same **** you are giving as your reason for leaving! RV Forums in general don't appear to be getting bigger as a rule, mostly due to Facebook and the groups they have there plus all the Manufacturer specific groups. Then you have the ones responding to this very thread that wear their "Banning" from this Forum as a badge of honor! WTF, and call the moderators, "******". With **** like this, its no wonder things are as they are. To all those wanting to leave this Forum(in the famous words of Nike) "Just Do It" !! IMHO

RE: DirecTV 101 satellite

I was just on Facebook on one of my RV Topic's and someone posted something to the effect that March 1st was now a deadline. It had 75+ comments but as I was loading those comments, I lost it. Anyways, I know SD is doomed and I do have older SD only receivers in the MH and one I use in the house on a separate single LNA dish. I also have the HD Dish, Rec/DVR and wireless client in home. My question if Sat 101 will be used still and my Domed (KD) will still work with an upgraded receiver, what entry level HD receiver would be the one that works or will that be determined later. I'm also wondering if my older Datron System being a single LNA dish utilizing only the 101 Sat will still work. It always been kind of hard to find compatible receiver for that system. Finally, with an upgraded receiver, will that work on both the old Dish and the newer dish?(multi LNB). I suppose many of these questions will be answered sooner than later.

RE: tpms

I don't have one yet BUT I realize the need for it! I watch my rear camera on the MH all the time fearing that my "toad" has had a Blow out which I wouldn't know about until plenty of damage was done. Same goes for the inner of dual wheels....you could drive 100's of miles without knowing you loss pressure on an inside tire. I'm talking myself into it!!! :-)

RE: Outdoor Speaker Replacement

Looks Pretty Cool to me....good use of empty space. Just thinking out loud but maybe having LED's that you can chose the color would have been interesting too!

RE: Washer dryer in a class c

Wouldn't own an RV nowadays without a washer/dryer. Having it makes things so convenient...and as said if you have the room, ability to plumb it in and provide power, your good to go!

RE: What is this?

I love the "shower cap" 3 1/2 inches in diameter! Not sure that would fit my hamster's head! :-) if I had a hamster!
